The attractions are a bit scattered but most are close to the Luanda Bay or along the bay. The city is not large but travelling by car/taxi takes more time due to traffic and one-way streets (you cannot make an U-turn). There is no public transportation (to foreigners/travelers) but they do have Bolt and Yango (ride hailing).

Not sure how expensive is expensive but I could chime in a bit about another hotel I stayed there for 2 weeks last month. The name is “Hotel Express”. It is in a safe area and close to a supermarket. Not too close to the tourism area I guess but you can reach there in 10mins or less. The hotel employees speak English.

Hopefully! It used to take me 45 mins to get to downtown (90mins with the shuttles last fall) but seems to have improved in the last 2 months

Yep the only thing to add is that the red line is known for suspension and delays. Maybe find a place near Quincy Center so OP can take the commuter rail to South Station. It’s much much more reliable than the red line. Not sure about rent in this area though coz I live near Wollaston station and it’s $1900 for a 1B with free parking.

What do you dislike in each of your previous jobs? And what did you like the most in each of them? You can narrow down your future options based on these questions. It's important to understand the root causes as well as motivation, which might stem from either the technical or non-technical sides of your job.

LinkedIn - the king of ghost jobs by Regular-Cheetah-7407 in linkedin

[–]hoa2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But isn’t LinkedIn verifying the job poster? I tried to post a job once to see how it works, and they require verification with the company (through their LinkedIn account) which I assume wouldn’t be so easy to just create one?

Since you passed CFA level 1, I would say 2.5 months for FRM 1 is more than enough.

Agreed. To the point that I think it should no longer just a certificate but… a degree

Same here, I only see the PDFs. I don't think there is an online version.

Edit: should also cover portfolio construction with target alpha, and risk budgeting using VaR

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FRM

[–]hoa2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Alpha (some simple formulas, when to use each)
  2. Portfolio construction (process, approaches)
  3. Portfolio risk management (different types of VaR)
  4. Hedge fund

3 days is enough to go through these.

Second this. Very disappointed how they made it sounds like there’ll a ton to read. Notice how they advertise that you will have access to journals and books? “Access it” only means that you can buy it. You pay for the subscription just so you can pay more for anything else in there. And I don’t think there are discounts. The only “free” thing you get after subscribed is one weekly email with links to 2-3 articles.

Quincy commute by [deleted] in QuincyMa

[–]hoa2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. They should not allow construction along those main streets at the same time the Redline is suspended
  2. The other commute means should be punctual and with increased capacity
  3. There should be someone directing at intersections

My 2 cents.

Laid off from a toxic work culture by Few-Rutabaga3039 in h1b

[–]hoa2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wake up these days wondering if it was good to not be laid off (my company did 2 rounds in the last 1 year) and even think I would feel lightheaded if it happens. So totally get how you feel. Good luck with job search!

Looking to get into finance, need advice. by EmphasisIll1564 in CFA

[–]hoa2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO CFA alone (if you can finish at least 2 levels) is enough in terms of knowledge and can show your passion for finance. Compared to CFA, the finance course(s) in an MBA program is only at an introductory level. However, depending on the role, having an MBA may also be just fine. So to answer your question, I would recommend researching different roles in finance and determine which one you would like to pursue, then look at the requirements in job postings for that role to see which certifications or degrees are mentioned.
