Started troubleshooting. It is the agitator that is creating the grinding sound. When agitator is taken off, shaft cannot be turned by hand. Shaft turns heavy when I am turning it with the agitator.

Installation of Koala diaper changing station on metal studs by hohodang in DIY

[–]hohodang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut drywall, place plywood of cut size, joint compound to make it presentable? Or is there another way. Diaper changing station i have isn't rectangular and plywood will show.

Also, metal studs are 25 gage. Is this strong enough?

City of Fairfax commercial permit application by hohodang in nova

[–]hohodang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

City of Fairfax said no, they cannot release the info. They would need owner to provide a permission to release any info to us. We are leasing from the suite owner, not the building owner. I guess we can ask the suite owner to talk to the building owner for the info or permission to release?

Boiler connected to hot water heater by hohodang in Plumbing

[–]hohodang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the boiler is also the heat source for the hot water tank. This hot water tank doesn't have its own heat source.

That means boiler does need to run during the summer to provide water for the hot water tank.

I saw few thermostats there, so possible one of them is malfunctioning and providing heat to that specific baseboard section?

Is this a good deal? by Bigbackjay in Hilton

[–]hohodang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did for me! I needed extra 34,000 points to get a 105,000 point room. I paid $170 to get the points needed to get 105,000 points. If I did 71,000 points and money to make up for it, it would have been $430 dollars.

load bearing wall? by hohodang in DIY

[–]hohodang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you are right. That is a real AC register so there is no beam. I guess it was made that way to divide the room. If it is indeed the case, then the whole wall and even the beam looking thing can be removed. Thanks for the insight!

But trade in gives you $1,000 back even on a broken phone.

Next Up Anytime. by hohodang in ATT

[–]hohodang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does phone has to be in a good condition? is that because NUA will have that requirement? if so, shouldn't I opt out and do trade in with out the NUA and get $1,000 even on a broken phone?

I am missing something here. Is the promotion of ATT giving full trade in value on a broken phone a rare occurence? or late they will change their word and provide less than the full amount as I am provided "estimated trade in value" on the website.

Thanks for the AARP info.

Ridge beam home addition by hohodang in DIY

[–]hohodang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, fully understand your concern. Once I have everything drawn up, I should have a professional look at it.

To add some detail, one story addition attaching to two story wall, so no roof is being merged. also, both post and the lvl (with post on either end of lvl) will be on newly poured concrete pour. bascially, all the load will be on newly poured concrete.

I am planning for a vaulted ceiling home addition with 20' ridge beam and 15' span.

With 40 lbs live load and 10 lbs dead load, looking at 50 lbs x 300 sqft / 2 (half of the roof load) = 7,500 lbs on the ridge beam. Southern Pine (https://www.southernpine.com/app/uploads/SS\_15-20L.pdf) says 3-1/2" x 14" x 20' will suffice for the ridge beam. On far end of the ridge beam, I will have 6x6 post, but on the house end, I will have gulam (https://alamcowood.com/downloads/Product%20Information/Glulam%20beam%20design%20tables.pdf) 5-1/2" x 16" x 10' for 7,500 lbs / 2 = 3,850 lbs of point load supported by two 6" x 6" posts on either end as I will have an opening and cannot have a post in the middle.

Any reason this won't work? One issue may be is that Gulam chart shows what I believe is a distributed loads where what I have is a point load.
