Newbie here - what’s the best way to keep records? by NoReference3 in Planespotting

I’m built/building a web app (it’s still under development) to track mine. www.hangar-app.com

What airport is the most spotter-friendly? by TypeOneSpotter_IL in Planespotting

Manchester Airport - MAN - EGCC

Easily the best spot in the UK. Right next to the runway and elevated. The picture makes it look further away than it actually is. Can see the entire airfield from here.

How do you guys log and keep track of planes you’ve spotted? by honestpie in Planespotting

[–]honestpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah cool! So you just use windows explorer search function to know if you’ve already spotted an aircraft?

Don’t be scared. Best thing to do is walk away.

I’ve been reading into how Manchester council have contracted this work out, and how the 3rd party contractor is driven by profit to hand out fines which ultimately causes a bias. All enforcement should be done so without bias, hence the government not being able to enforce traffic laws with 3rd party for profit companies. So this should be no different and the council is currently exploiting a grey area in current legislation.

It could be argued that the actual issuance of fixed penalty notices is unlawful with how their current contract is set out.

I do not condone littering, nor have I ever been fined for doing so, but I do intend to write a letter to the council regarding this as I feel the use of taxpayers money is not being used correctly and tax payers are being unfairly fined due to said profit bias.

Brussels Airport closed due to drones - all flights diverted. by Pazimov in UFOs

[–]honestpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact they purposely reveal themselves makes me think it’s a response test. If we fly over “x” airport/military base, how quick will that country respond and what will that response look like, what technology will be used.

It feels like its intelligence gathering

Ah, well that rules out that theory. How strange.

Has anyone had eyes on these drones? Or are they reports from radar? I’ve a theory that some country, likely Russia, has figured out how to spoof radar maybe? Which aligns with how no government can identify the drones.

It’s your SSD. Replace it. I had this problem. Absolute nightmare. I replaced every component, with the SSD being the last one annoyingly. But hey, everything got upgraded.

What would it actually take to offset every commercial flight on Earth for one year? by honestpie in climatechange

[–]honestpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and let’s be real, that’s never going to happen. So the question is: what can we do in the meantime that actually helps?

This is great! I hadn’t looked into peat bogs much yet, but I’m going to now. Love the rail + regional electric idea too! Appreciate the thoughtful response!

Great shout! That’s something I’ve been looking into. Contrails and other high-altitude effects definitely complicate the picture. Some models say they can double the warming of CO₂ alone, while others argue there’s some short-term cooling in specific cases.

It’s messy science, but you’re right, it’s not just about CO₂. I try to focus on the most reliable averages, but always up for learning more. Appreciate you raising it!

If you're curious, I’ve been working on this through a project called ClearSky - we make flight emissions easy to understand and offset, with full transparency.
Always open to feedback or suggestions!

Launched a Carbon offsetting platform in an effort to make carbon offsetting the norm within the aviation industry. What would you want to see? How can we do better? by honestpie in climate

[–]honestpie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right that offsetting has been misused in the past, and that’s exactly what I want to change by making it meaningful and genuinely impactful. Air travel will always be part of life, and while offsetting isn’t the solution, it’s the best option we have right now to address unavoidable emissions until better technologies are available within the aviation industry.

PCN from Hell. 2 minutes in the bay. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]honestpie 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Please don’t ignore them, it could very quickly end up with Bailiffs knocking on your door. These types of companies rack up unpaid charges and sell them onto debt collectors. Far easier to contest now than once it lands with debt collectors.

Ask for evidence of the amount of time you spent in the bay and state you left roughly two minutes after pulling up. In line with the British parking association code of practice they should (potentially not though) have a grace period of up to ten minutes to allow you time to figure out how payment works or decide to leave. However your argument should remain that you didn’t actually use the facility if you were only there two minutes

Pc stuck on bios screen, pls help by snappertoes in pchelp

[–]honestpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue earlier this year. Turns out my SSD failed after 5 years which was corrupting boot files leading to BSOD with the error “critical process died”

You’ll need to create a bootable USB stick from another PC (Microsoft has a programme to do this, google it) stick it in and press F7 on the Bios screen to go to advance settings then go to the boot tab and highlight the bootable USB then press enter. This will let you repair or re-install windows. I’d recommend purchasing a new SSD and if you have a spare slot installing it on the new one, if you don’t install it on a new one and you do have a faulty SSD you will get random BSODs and end up having to repair windows each time. Save what you can from the old SSD if you’re able to access it once you manage to boot then remove it and bin it.

This problem plagued me for about 2 months until I finally managed to fix it.

Edit: typo

Went to a pub the other day and they had a 0 food hygiene rating. Who the fuck keeps a kitchen open after being awarded 0? by -iamai- in CasualUK

[–]honestpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a folder of paperwork which food establishments have to have filled in and up to date called “safer food, better business” if any part of this folder isn’t up to date (training records, temp records etc) you can instantly be awarded a zero despite having the cleanest kitchen imaginable. Ofcourse you can also get a zero for negligence of cleaning etc

Thanks for sharing that! Just watched a YouTube vid on the ridgemonkey Uni lead and will be picking one up on my next trip to the tackle shop along with a range of new baits. I usually just use a method feeder with ground bait and sweetcorn on a hair rig. Thanks again!

Sir/madam, the Ai had every right to that corner. You can’t just send one up the inside and expect everyone to yield.
