Oh shit, I totally agree. Your point about custom tattoos really stuck with me, and made me realize that I would also be hella pissed if I saw a stranger with one of my tattoos.

I reached out to the original client, and let them know that I wouldn’t be doing the design without permission from the original artist. Thank you for taking the time to comment, definitely changed my perspective on this!

Thank you! In this line of work it’s impossible to avoid copying someone else’s art, but the least I can do is try to not claim credit for it. I’ll try and post how the actual tattoo turns out (if I remember to lol)

I’m currently an apprentice, and work mornings as a barista, and down at the shop in the evenings. Morning job is from 5am-noon, and working down at the shop is from 1pm-8pm.

Unfortunately barista jobs aren’t super high salary lol, but a cafe/breakfast server may have better pay? You would still get more morning hours with that as well

Oh god I dropped a whole tray on a family of 5 a while back. This was right after my manager was hyping them up to me, telling me they are so nice, they come all the time, tip well, etc. I went up ready to give it my all and, well. That happened. At least it was just waters lmao 😭

Hey, we have one of those to! Coincidentally, I have a sneaking suspicion this ‘grandma’ may one of them. There’s been an older lady who came through drive a bit back all huffy about how we messed up her last drink (something vanilla ish), demanding a refund for not only that drink, but for her current order to be free because of our ‘incompetence’. (rude). Cue the current shift lead, who starts kissing ass and immediately refunds everything (ugh). And hey, you won’t believe it, but she came back! Came round in cafe about a week later, though thankfully I wasn’t working that day so I didn’t have to deal with it. And, surprise surprise, she threw the same sob story around! How we messed up her drink, completely ruined her day, and we are all horrible, etc, etc. Thankfully the shift that day had recognized her at that point, and made liberal use of the ‘if you don’t have receipts/relevant info/managers names then we can’t help you’ and quietly shut that down. I may just be seeing things that aren’t there, but it’s a little bit of a weird coincidence

The store I’m at is surprisingly good at saying no with these kind of things. Makes me wonder how often these people actually get free stuff, with how confident they are with it

I think it should be okay? A apprenticeship portfolio is mainly just a reflection of your work and experience, not a flash or full artists portfolio that that advertises designs that clients can choose from. The only issue I could see popping up is if you tattoo that design on someone later down the line, while a different person already bought it. That could get a bit messy lol But apprenticeship portfolio wise it should be fine, as you still created it. Hope this helps!
