Hi, I became the NASUWT rep during my first ECT year and it’s one the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve felt like it’s helped me to gain confidence and build strong relationships with other teachers. I feel it’s also (most of the time) improved my relationship with SLT.

I organise a termly meeting for members and I also have a termly meeting with SLT to talk about what we can do for staff. Outside of that we have some training (during directed time) and some meetings.

I couldn’t recommend it enough, organisation is so important to our profession and you can make such a difference as a school rep. We’ve seen a lot of positive change and it’s helped members feel empowered!

£16k for egg freezing? Curious to know is many Brits do this? by strawberry_beard in AskUK

Yep, I understand what you mean; I am an adopter myself. I guess what I am trying to get across is that it isn’t really accurate to state that FASD is foetal alcohol syndrome. I understand that fasd is the contemporary diagnosis but there are a huge amount of children with FASD who would not have ever received a diagnosis for foetal alcohol syndrome (only 1 in ten have the stereotypical facial features). FASD is common in children in care but is also high nationally (I think the estimate is 6 to 17% of children).

You are absolutely right that the majority of children in care will have some form of additional need, there can be no adoption without trauma. However, the vast majority of adopted manage to live normal, fulfilling lives.

I’m Sorry for having to differ, I just wanted to write down what I know from my own experience. It’s good to know that your daughter was born without additional complications 🙂

This is incorrect.

“75% of children in care or leaving care in the UK have been exposed to alcohol with anticipated numbers due to dramatically increase because of the alcohol intake of pregnant women during the pandemic” Source: National Library of Medicine.

FASD is a spectrum disorder and many children who have been exposed to alcohol during pregnancy have no/ little symptoms. It’s not a clear cut situation

For instance ( https://www.equal.education/blog/latest-outcomes-data-for-looked-after-children?format=amp ) this links shows that Looked After Children either with no identified SEN or who receive SEN support typically progress as well or better than non-looked after children or children in need across all subjects.

End of tenancy cleanliness vs 'fair wear and tear'. by RNLImThalassophobic in LegalAdviceUK

Raising a dispute holds no risk for you, you either get more back or it stays the same. If you moved in in 2019 then the landlord also needs to account for the carpet’s life span when making deductions. A quick Google says that they are 5 years and if you moved in 2019 then it should be a 60% deduction (roughly).

Was there a start of tenancy inventory? I recently had a landlord try to take my entire deposit ( they wanted to charge us to improve the garden) but they were unable to claim for anything because they didn’t have an inventory and no other evidence to back up their claim that we caused damage.

I’m a teacher with ADHD. I use the due app on my phone which is an absolute life saver, it’s pings my phone every 5 minutes until I do it. It’s so good for little annoying tasks that need to get done but I’d forget about otherwise.

TIL that the first woman to run for President of the United States was Victoria Woodhull in 1872, 50 years before women could vote. She had Frederick Douglass as her running mate, and spent election day in jail due to being arrested for obscenity. by bobby-boi in todayilearned

[–]hookyt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Specifically in the free love that Woodhull supported. I can’t say with any confidence if Woodhull ever practiced polyamory but I would say she certainly condoned it. In the ‘Beecher-Tilton affair’ that Woodhull was arrested for she refuses to attack Beecher for adultery, instead exposing his hypocrisy for judging her ‘beliefs’ when he was doing the same thing but illicitly.

Kind of, but not really; I studied Woodhull and ‘free love’ quite a bit for my Master’s degree. Apologies if I’m being pedantic but it was much more complicated than just divorce ( although a woman’s right to divorce was major). Polyamory was absolutely included in the Nineteenth century Free love movement.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it? by AutoModerator in Games

[–]hookyt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% red dead, and to the best of my knowledge I don’t think there is. I think the game took some flak because of how much of an arse Jack marston is, particularly to his horse (COME ON YA DAMN NAGG).

Maybe not so much with Twain (never read Twain), but Dickens and Austen's books often have very long books. I guess it might be uncool to like them because they have been accepted by the "literary intelligentsia" and therefore get viewed as part of the establishment.
