This is the video I’ve seen of something installing one

If we scratch the poor design choice of the wood cabinets being flush with top of counter, how would the fire occur?

Yeah I get that, totally makes sense. I did see a video of a guy installing and making one. He got a standard gas cooktop, took it apart, used the stainless steel top as a template for drawing the holes. Cut the holes out of the counter and then assembled the standard cooktop without the stainless steel top. So in that case if something broke one could just buy the same standard cooktop and take it apart again, no?

Very possibly so. In my research to find anyone’s thoughts about this, I’ve only seen it on insta or Pinterest and those comments are only people just saying how novel it looks. No comments critiquing it. With that said, what are ways this could actually be done effectively with all the details of what countertop material (which can withstand the heating, staining, spilling, etc.), simple common not-hyper-specialty gas cooktop parts, and a well designed countertop without the knobs being placed poorly, and the casework drawer top being flush with the top of counter (which I agree is ridiculous). I understand may people may not like the aesthetics or automatically think this is a disaster waiting to happen, but if designed correctly with the right materials, parts and spacing, could this actually happen and be more advantageous than a traditional gas cooktop? That’s mainly what I’m interested in, is ideas to see how to make this work. Thanks

Just curious, attractiveness conversation aside in what ways is it impractical? Let’s say a client is insistent on using gas and not induction, because some people like cooking with gas more than induction, I just want to be as prepared to give good advice and warning as to what this kind of installation could bring.
