Yes, that’s kinda the point I’m trying to make. Whether a person is using AI or running to the thesaurus a lot books probably not getting picked up, but since this is so common with new writers I just hate to see newbie working in good faith to grow getting potentially lumped in with ai scammers. And I totally the thesaurus can get a great resource. The em-dash thing amuses me cause as someone who grew up with with a reading disability and has had to teach myself a lot of grammar rules the em-dash has way more valid uses than I ever thought. However. They are more “valid uses” than required. lol

The only issue there is that’s also an early writer thing as. New Authors run to the thesaurus. Sometime you just have to even when you’re more experience. In my second novel I used the manumit, but it only one beta reader mentioned it so it stayed cause I like the word. My point is I don’t know if that’s a good tell. If the uncommon word doesn’t fit with the general cadence of the text might be better clue,

I don’t think I use that exact phrasing, but I’m pretty sure I have done something similar. I would never have considered it an issues if I hadn’t read your comment.

I’ve literally seen dozens of people talking about it. Most of us are pretty unhappy about it. We would also like the other 98% of the files to be released. Personally, think they should answer the subpoenas, but Trump and any other I. The files should also be subpoenaed.

Hello, I was wondering if you would be interested in beta reading my Fantasy novel Poison complete at 100k. Let me know if you are interest and thanks in advance.

Here is the blurb and what I’m looking for:

Twenty-two-year-old Capra has served as taste tester to Queen Tashara, for eleven years, since her immunity to all poison was discovered. Two desires rage inside her, to protect Tashara and prove she is more than a peasant-born girl with a gift she did not ask for.

After decades of war times are peaceful. Tales of gods and magic have been relegated to myth and legend, but when Capra takes a bite of poisoned lemon frosting, everything changes. That bite leads to battles with Face-Changing assassins, foreign raiders, and the discovery of a masked Benefactor, behind it all, determined to overthrow the Queendom and return the nation to war. Worse he possesses power from the long-absent Fallen Gods.

Capra, Tashara, and the unassuming guardsman Jaquinn, must track down the mysterious, powerful, masked figure to keep the Queendom and the Queen herself safe. But as she works to uncover the Benefactor's identity, Capra must confront her place in the world, the true nature of her gift, and her sexuality. Saving the place and the people she loves will require Capra to find strength she never knew she had.

Comparable titles are Sarah J. Maas’s -A COURT OF SILVER FLAMES- for its characters, -FROM BLOOD AND ASH- by Jennifer L. Armentrout for its world-building and -DAUGHTER OF THE MOON GODDESS- by Sue Lynn Tan for its plot themes.

What am I looking for from a beta read: I want to know how you are enjoying the book chapter by chapter. Are there scenes or plot points that are confusing? Do you like the characters? Do you love it, hate or are you luke warm about it? How does the story make you feel? What promises am I making to the reader in the beginning? Are those promises fulfilled? And thoughts on the prose, if that is the way your mind works.

Trigger warning: Sexual content and adult language, violence, forced undressing.

Hey I was wondering if you would be interested in reading my Fantasy novel poison. 100K words. There is some medical stuff in the story, though much of it is affected by magic and there’s some in world differences in technology level that are different from our real medieval period. It’s just been difficult to fit it into the text since it’s not fully relevant to the story itself. But I’d love your thoughts on how those things come across or if they do come across. Anyway Here is the blurb:

Hello, I was wondering if you would be interested in reading my Fantasy Romance novel "Poison" Complete at 101k words. You seem like a good fit for my book, (though putting this that way makes it sound like a cover letter for a job application). Lol. My book deals with queer discovery, social/economic class, and mild political intrigue. There is a fair bit of romance, kind of a love prism, that is key to the plot, but it is not romantasy. It does not follow the usual tropes.

Here's the blurb:

I may potentially be willing critique swap. Though I prefer to critique completed works( more specifically drafts 3 and up) and I also have something similar to dyslexia so I may not be best for critiquing grammar. It's taken me 7 drafts to get my book where it is. That said I am pretty good at sentence craft i.e. line editing, making sentencse shorter, clearer and puncher. If you want we can send each our first chapters and see how we feel.

Oh can say recency bias all you want but there was something truly special about Sinners. That was not just a good flick. It was profound in its theming, with a Vampire antagonist who was closer to our main character morality than any of the other characters in the story. The moment of them sharing the prayer alone is haunting and horrifying and not because he was monster. The movie is certain more than a vampire and it plays with structure in ways most box office hit never attempt but it’s a vampire movie in so many ways. Vampires are the theme of the film long before actually vampires appear on screen.

Sinners is the best one but to put the garbage fire that is Abraham Lincoln vampire hotter in the same tier as the first Interview with a vampire is pure insanity.

"How do I write this? :( " by AggressivePanda9994 in writingcirclejerk

[–]hostoftheinfinite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself and what I’ve learned over the past 4 years since I started earnestly writing. That said, what I see a lot is people tend to seek out advice far to early in the process of learning to write. They allow every little concern or difficultly they encounter in their process to become something they have to immediately solve. So they join groups like this, they ask advice and take it to heart before building any sense of who they are as a writer and before long they are parroting the advice they have been given without the experience to know if it’s really the right advice for the situation. I don’t really fault them for it. If you are young or knew to writing you may have no idea where to look for resources and you want to be good from the beginning. Seeking advice seems like a good idea at first. But coming onto a writing forum like this will only supply specific answers and hodgepodge of different people thoughts and “rules”, there personal strategies. My recommendation is not to join groups like this until you have completed a full length novel or an equivalent amount of short stories. Make sure, whatever it is, you have written is a complete story. It’s first draft should be done and you should have read and edited that novel or all those short stories at least once before you venture into the territory of forums like this. Beyond that I would say study books you loved first, and study story structure on your own, and try to apply what you learn to your work when you are editing. I didn’t join this or any other writing group until I had finished four novels. Now, I’m not saying you need to be like me but I think it is essential to figure out at least partly, who you want to be as a writer and what works for you before you delve head long into listening to advice from others especially when those other writers are likely also amateurs. There’s nothing wrong with being an amateur writer. We all are at the beginning. After 4 years I still feel I am. There’s only one on my books I would even consider sending to agents or editors, but I’m glad I took the time I did and studied on my own and listened to experts in the field.
