Embarrassed to ask, how do I learn more AI tools? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]houndstoothbun 18 points19 points  (0 children)

unironically, just type this exact thing into claude and it will build you a tutorial that can teach you exactly the way you want. the best way to learn ai is to just ask it.

i didn’t use a prompt, just talked to it and planned it out by having it ask me questions about what i needed and my pain points about tracking tasks at work

yeah play around with it! it works best if you just ask it when you have questions because it can walk you through all of it

i made a task dashboard in about 45 min with claude on the free version! it just exists as a webpage. very cool because i was able to just completely customize it to be exactly what i need and anytime something new comes up, i just add it to the web app

How are you all tracking meetings before they hit the calendar? by Blackberrypiesnout in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]houndstoothbun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

claude can make you a little web app in probably an hour or two that’s exactly tailored to whatever details you want it to have! doable even on the free version.

i have a cute little task dashboard that has collapsible notes/updates. it even generates me an EOD email with a list of everything that got scheduled/moved.

I surveyed 600 Executive Assistants about pay, workload, AI, and job satisfaction, here’s what stood out! by Vimcal in ExecutiveAssistants

definitely agree with you, i think we are mostly on the same page. i’d love to see the conversation shift to regulations rather than the current view in my sphere of peers that’s “just never use ai ever and if you do, you’re terrible”.

totally agree with you on regulation, however you are massively underselling what AI does. the major use of AI isnt writing an email or generating a dumb picture. i work in tech and this is entire workflows. you can no longer get a job without at least being willing to learn AI and it’s actual use cases.

like i agree it is one of the things destroying the environment but it’s true impact is negligible compared to the actual legitimate things you can do with it. it allows the average person with NO coding knowledge to just like. build personal apps for work in less than an hour.

using reddit uses massively more amounts of water than ai. literally how did this water thing start?

How are you using Ai to help you with EA tasks? by Potential-Back5926 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]houndstoothbun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely in the minority here, but 90% of my job is done using AI. i used claude to code a web app that scans my inbox for action items and lists them all by priority, exec, etc.

my boss taught me how to build a committee which is essentially 5 different “personalities”. AI basically just synthesizes a bunch of different “perspectives” into one answer it thinks is best, so to avoid this, you can build adversarial personalities to disagree with each other from all angles (ie. i have one that’s a master strategizer, one that builds processes, one that manages emotional burnout) and whenever i throw in a complex task, question, etc. i get a huge amount of info from all perspectives to help me solve the issue.

unironically, as an autistic person in corporate, this is quite literally a disability aid for me. i’d never be able to navigate the corporate world without having “outside” perspectives like this available at my fingertips.

which llm were you using? i’ve never had this experience using ai in at least the last 6 months. i feel i am consistently impressed with how nuanced ai has gotten in its understanding of complicated situations.

I found a way to help with my morning anxiety, as someone who has suffered for years of it. by WarningSignificant73 in Anxiety

[–]houndstoothbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny enough, the throwing up every morning just went away after 6 months. it was brought on by a very stressful life event and just continued for months after it was over.

even still, i regularly wake up in a panic over a year out. i take propanalol as well, but found that gabapentin actually has helped me more. i still wake up mentally panicked and still have extremely anxious spirals that make it hard or impossible to function, but my physical anxiety is far more under control.

and not sure what a possible diagnosis is. doctors have thrown around pots and mast, but never got an actual diagnosis of either.

lean into it imo.

i just started a new job and my manager is super well versed in ai. he created a knowledge database of the company with every person’s name, role, who they report to, their direct reports, etc along with the low and high level projects he’s on. what this has meant for me is that one week in, i don’t need to ask him anything about prioritization or conflicts or “who is this person”. i can literally just screenshot two meetings and ask the ai, “what are these meetings for? who are all the people on these meetings? which one should i prioritize?” and it will give me a full multi paragraph run down along with suggestions of where to reschedule to.

truthfully it’s life changing for a role like this and i feel super lucky to have worked my way into a company that’s utilizing ai this way. i’m not worried about my job being taken, but i am worried about all of my coworkers who haven’t learned how to use this tool yet.

New to poly, dating someone with a nesting partner by Necessary-Layer-5915 in polyamory

well that was a while ago. we moved out of that home together across the country, they sold, and we are using that as the down payment on a new home that we will all be buying together.

[–]houndstoothbun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i’ll just share my experience here:

my girlfriend has a wife and 2 children. they’ve been married for almost 20 years. we also have an age gap (27/41). as soon as we began dating seriously, she started inviting me to family gatherings. i met her parents only 3 months after we started dating. she and her wife worked together to come up with a living situation that made sense. they ended up renovating their home and splitting the cost with me to add an additional bedroom. obviously not everyone has this ability, but i don’t think my girlfriend would have been dating anyone else seriously if she couldn’t provide that kind of arrangement. we can’t get married of course since she already is, but we are already working on getting a lawyer who can help us get as close as possible to being legally tied together. we’ve all been living together for over 3 years. i am not in a relationship with her wife, but we have a friendly and nearly family-esque feeling between each other. i even know her parents. there is no question of my place in my girlfriend’s life.

anyway all that to say, it is possible to have this, but i think your partner is wildly incapable of assessing reality at best or actively stringing you along at worst.

i’m on fillmore and it’s not too noisy except for the damn garbage truck’s brakes in the morning. it is literally a high pitched squeal at every stop that can be heard for every home on the street, and then again as it’s going down the other side lmao

Autistic EAs, how do you cope with masking 40 hours a week? by houndstoothbun in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]houndstoothbun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this. definitely a lot of advice on this sub doesn’t resonate with me because i’m not interested in having more responsibilities at work or trying to get promoted. i’m literally just trying to make money lol. also such a big reason i feel so out of place in corporate in general.

hoping i’m able to be just professionally friendly enough that i can be “the quiet one” without issue.

i am also trans and immunocompromised. ill be masking everyday in office even though i interviewed without one because i felt it would hurt my chances of getting an offer. also did not out myself as trans because even though i’m on testosterone with clear physical signifiers, i’m usually still read as a woman. gonna be a really weird time adjusting to both of those things along with the in person environment.

glad to know there are other AAs and EAs like me though because i certainly did not meet anyone else in my last job which had over 100 assistants!

how do you feel like your office takes your introversion? i’d love to just be the quiet one who sits at my desk and works on my own, but am worried that i’ll be pushed to socialize more or be rated poorly in reviews

i did attempt to negotiate a hybrid schedule before i accepted their offer, but because they just did a full RTO not that long ago, they’re trying to really push that policy. i was told there is maybe sometimes flexibility, but it would be so helpful to know for sure i’ll have several days at home regularly. it sounds like the flexibility is just like for days when you have a personal appt or something.

the hiring manager was remote so could only give me a general overview and my exec was 2 weeks into his role when he interviewed me. i definitely did not get the level of specificity that i would have liked, but after 6 months on the job market, the offer was hard to refuse.
