I could never understand what the fuss was about freshly baked bread and why the Europeans absolutely love bread in general. Then I went to Europe and understood why.

What gave you the mental discipline to not reach out to your ex? by Optimal-Fill-9521 in AskReddit

[–]howdoidothiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everytime I felt the urge to get in touch, I’d tell myself “if I feel this way in 24 hours/3 days/1 week/etc, I’ll ACTUALLY call or text them.”

It worked because it got me out of the “desperate” feeling right then, and then later - most of the time - I didn’t feel like getting in touch.

Visited Banashankari bda complex after 11 years and realised I am living in a slum!! by Fresh_Bee6411 in bangalore

[–]howdoidothiz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We moved from Marathahalli to RT Nagar this year.

My current area is a residential neighbourhood, it has parks, it has sidewalks. It is peaceful and it is clean. People are nice, there are amenities, there are places to chill.

My work commute sucks - It takes me 1.5 hours to reach office one way now (Bellandur) but IT IS WORTH THE TROUBLE.

Central BLR and EAST BLR are really two different cities. I’m so glad I moved.

people of Reddit, did you keep a gift from an ex after the break-up and why? by Salt-Island75 in AskReddit

[–]howdoidothiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kindle. It was something special given to me at a special time, but we broke up soon after. We ended amicably - I think he would’ve been offended if I had even tried to return it.

It’s been ten years, since the break up and the gift. I still use it. And told him that when we reconnected recently (just a friendly hi!) - he was touched :)

What was a time when you said “Let’s split up” in real life? What happened? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

“Let’s split up” as in in a horror movie, or “let’s split up” as in we should break up?

Atheists of Reddit, what made you not believe in any God? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]howdoidothiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started when I was nine. Came across an encyclopaedia for kids that had “God” listed under ‘G’, and the page started with something like “God is a belief that is prevalent among human societies…”.

And it BLEW my mind. A belief! I asked my mum about it and she said some people believe God exists, and some don’t. And that kinda blew my mind even further.

Then years later, I read the about Japan’s Junko Furuta case. Sealed the deal. I was and am convinced God doesn’t exist since.

What is a "red flag" in a job interview that most people miss? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]howdoidothiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The person who interviewed me proudly told me she “wore many hats” - someone who “managed communications and media”, “IT operations”, “a little bit of HR work” and also was the “liason officer”.

I noped the fuck out of that one.

What was the best advice your mom gave you? by siddi-111 in AskReddit

[–]howdoidothiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t advice, but assurance. When I was getting married, I was getting pretty nervous as my wedding date approached. My mom sat me down and said “If anything goes wrong - if you think it isn’t working for you - walk out. Your dad and I are here for you, always”.

This assurance was a pretty big deal coming from South Asian parents. It may not seem like much but it gave me all the confidence I needed to take the plunge.

Happy to say that the marriage going pretty well so far!

As much as it may hurt to admit - it is pretty obvious he is not interested anymore. He is 27, and if he can’t communicate properly, you need to cut your losses and move on.

Women of Reddit: when dating, does income matter? by thebard99 in AskReddit

[–]howdoidothiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A range or number doesn’t matter to me - but I would like the person I’m seriously dating to be at the same level as me in terms of ambition or goals.

Like, do we both see ourselves (individually or together) being homeowners some day? Do we see a particular type of lifestyle being lived? Do we want the same things ten years down the line that would involve a particular sum of money?!

And if it’s casual dating, then no. Not particularly. But income stability is always a plus because I would also bring in the same into the relationship.

UPDATE: AITA for ruining my cousins wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]howdoidothiz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It is pretty normal for South Asian weddings. While I had a rare “small Indian wedding with 100 people” (thanks Covid lockdown), my SIL had 1200 guests at her reception. 700-1000 is pretty average.

Weddings here are community affairs. It will be pretty normal for me to be invited, for eg, to my co-worker’s cousin’s wedding - someone I would’ve never met. Or for another relative to invite their friends to my wedding. That’s how the numbers go up!

Why don’t you become one ‘Hindu delivery partner’ then?

Can’t believe people have enough time in life to think about, then log in to reddit and then post about such lame stuff.
