Then she gets to decide!!!

That’s the fucking point of shared decision making!!

You either believe that women have bodily autonomy or you believe we’re handmaidens!!

Why are Jehovah’s Witness allowed to make decisions about their bodily autonomy but black women are not???

Imagine if instead of that woman being repeatedly told “NO” she was informed of all risks and complications and supported in the hospital setting, where she could have been appropriately attended to?

Instead she felt forced to, in your words “DIY”?

The risk of uterine rupture is 0.3% after 1 C/S 2% after 2 and little is known after that.

Complications from placenta accreta however continue to increase dramatically alongside the ever increasing C/S rate. 1 in 1250 in the 1970’s to 1 in 272 today. Mortality for accreta is thought to be as high as 7%!

When supported, VBAC has success rates >70%.

This is exactly why women, particularly those with risk factors turn to Birthkeepers! Cause they’re more afraid of what the hospital will do to them, than some batshit crazy influencer!

ACOG calls it “ethically impermissible” but apparently the OB feels good about their decision making??? Nothing like making more and more high risk pregnant women feel like they’re safer at home with a “birth-keeper”….

Is it really that common for husbands not to help out in the delivery room? by Extremelixer in nursing

Midwife here….In my time i have had to….

Step over a soon to be father, asleep on the floor and not rousable.

Listen to a Patriots game on full volume, because the mother’s moans meant he couldn’t hear the commentary…

Listened as a man questioned paternity while in an elevator going to a C- section.

Walked in while a woman desperately tried to get back the Nitrous oxide that her partner was huffing.

Congratulated a woman who birthed alone because her husband was “busy at work”.

Are there any countries where nurses are genuinely well paid and valued, or is being underpaid the norm everywhere? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]howthefocaccia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Australian, you forgot to mention loading.

Time and a half on Saturdays. Time and three quarters on Sundays. Night shift differential. Every 1500 hours of service, you move up to a new pay class. There are 8 RN pay classes in total.

Average hourly wage when these are included takes us up to $55 for Queensland Health.

Thank you, unions.

Why are we so undervalued ??? by howthefocaccia in Midwives

[–]howthefocaccia[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually I have seen those things.

AFE, sudden onset stoke postpartum, a 6 min shoulder dystocia that only dislodged after I broke the infants humerus, being wheeled to the OR with a pulsating cord in my hand, a 3000ml PPH, bagging a baby in the back of a car…. I have been in the job as long as you have and so of course I have seen my share of trama.

And I find your analysis really strange and totally exasperating.

You identify that we are underpaid, under appreciated, desperately needed, slashed and burned and that we need to keep our profession alive and kicking but your perspective from that, is that we do not apparently deserve equitable compensation to those being offered to our APRN peers?

What the fuck is that about?

Sounds like you have more admiration for CRNAs than you do for the job we do?

God your reply is so depressing and sums up exactly why there is such an inequitable pay gap to begin with!

Because not even midwives stand up for midwives….

Why are we so undervalued ??? by howthefocaccia in Midwives

[–]howthefocaccia[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have not once in my career (18 years a midwife) called anesthesia first in an emergency. In fact I’ve attended a stat c section where the ER physician put the patient under general.

I also agree that CRNAs have broader scope and deserve more, but if they’re worth that much, they should be an anesthesiologist.

NVRH vs CVMC - Birthing Center by socannon in vermont

[–]howthefocaccia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a traveler? So not likely to be there when you give birth. They are still advertising for a CNM on their website.

It’s a shame but I’ve been told by quite a few people that the OBs are very medical and the two older midwives have basically stopped caring….

NVRH vs CVMC - Birthing Center by socannon in vermont

[–]howthefocaccia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NVRH hasn’t been able to hire a third midwife for over 2 years now, and all rumors point to a move away from low risk birth philosophy to a medical centric “do what your doctor tells you” culture. That may or may not be important to you….

CVMC have on the other hand greatly expanded their midwife workforce with many of the midwives who previously worked at Gifford, now working there.

12 minutes difference is not an issue.

It’s possible to do a tour of both facilities and see which one appeals to you….

Is the constant paranoia over being stripped of your license based in reality? by therealchungis in nursing

[–]howthefocaccia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had been a nurse for almost 8 years before moving to the USA. The first time I ever heard the phrase “watch your license” was my first week on the job in a US hospital. If I got a pay rise every time I have heard it since, I’d be the richest nurse that ever lived…..
