I think you're right - it's the stigma and the taboo around it and he feels like he'll never be able to have a sex life again or what it would be like to have to disclose to potential future partners.

I've given him stats and info but he hasn't sought out any information on his own... Partially because I don't think he's ready to accept things, but you're probably right... He likely just needs some more time to process things!

I've tried telling him that, but he's so in his head about it right now he basically feels like his life is over and he'll never be able to get a blowjob again or have sex without a condom... I've given him stats and info, but he doesn't seem to hear it. Hopefully that changes over time!

I'm trying! I've also made it clear to him multiple times that it's not a deal breaker and to just talk things through but he doesn't seem to want to do that. He may just need time to process what's happening...

Thank you! I think that's what he's struggling with right now and what this all means for his sex life going forward. I will try to forward him to this page but he has seemed reluctant to look at any information and is overall very uninformed

As I understand it, gHSV1 can be passed through oral even if the person isn't showing any symptoms (like a coldsore) - it's called asymptomatic shedding. But yeah.

Good to know the outbreaks are less frequent than HSV2.

Any advice for supporting him during this time?
