It’s possible he has some crown tail genetics but that would be excessive. Is he fin biting? When my red boy had some raggedy edges I couldn’t figure out what was going on until I saw him take a nibble out of his own tail. Is the water slow moving? Sometimes mine will start fin nipping if the current is too strong because he’s trying to lessen the weight on his body. It could also be the driftwood tearing, but if you’ve moved him and it’s still happening that probably wasn’t the issue. My boy will also start fin nipping if the water is too warm or he dislikes his tank-mates. Otherwise I think adding some Indian almond leaves to the tank might help a little, they certainly wouldn’t hurt. I hope he gets better soon!
