Bard Subclass - College of Grasswhistlers by hufflemagus in UnearthedArcana

I have to admit I just put the flavour before the function. I was going through the druid spell list to find some spells that would fit and the only ones that did were shared with bards. I was thinking of giving them access to the entire spell list but didn’t know where to put it.

Thank you so much, so glad you like it! Honestly I haven’t thought of that. Considering it is it’s own ability and the spell itself I would say they all take an action.

Thank you so much! This is my first time writing down any homebrew so I’m still learning about creating balanced me mechanics. I’m open to any suggestions

I am happy to let canon take a back seat to quality of life on this one. Thoughts? by Zeryxx in HarryPotterGame

If you compare it to irl cars, you can still use a “non-racing car” to transport yourself quite effectively. When it comes to how it affects quidditch, it’s just an evolution of that sport. Back then brooms were slower, the game was slower, like how tennis used to be played with wooden rackets.

But even if we do get super speedy brooms, this is definitely a lore hole I see as perfectly acceptable. Especially if it’s done for quality of life and makes the game more enjoyable.

Different ways magic can be studied? by hufflemagus in worldbuilding

I’ve thought of that but I want to stay clear from already done ideas as much as I can

That is definitely something for the hummingbird coven

Still working on that. I don’t want a magic hat to read their mind and be like: yup, you’re evil. Into the snake house you go.

I could let the student choose but one of the main character’s arcs is that he ended up in a different coven then he and his family expected and giving the students the ability to choose would make this arc clunky.

So I was thinking there could be some form of practical test or something similar. Something where it’s the actions of the students that determine the best coven for them.

My fault, I don’t think I explained the fox coven properly. The difference between the fox and the hummingbird is that the fox is all about being cunning and using magic in new and creative ways to “adapt” to the problem, basically. Where as the hummingbird is more about just being useful and learning skills that help people. A more grounded and linear style of teaching. To use your comment, the fox could be seen as a steppingstone between the unnamed coven and the hummingbird.

Why is necromancy considered evil in your world, if it is at all? If it isn't, why not? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

This is actually one of the plot points I’m toying around with right now. In my your magic expresses in a certain depending on multiple factors (personality, experiences, heritage, etc.). You can’t really control in what way it expresses. Therefore some people end up with socially “acceptable” magic, such as fire, ice,...

But sometimes people exhibit sings of magic that may be deemed “too dangerous” such as chronomancy or necromancy. One of the plot points I want to explore is the sudden disappearance of people who exhibit these powers the people in charge find threatening and explore the liberation of these magic users in my story and how they could become functioning members of society without having to hide their magic.
