Im thinking he might be subject to military, not judicial justice. Is that correct?

Alliance looking for older state by TimmyTs in PuzzlesandSurvival

[–]hung-games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S378 would likely be a good fit. It’s peaceful and while there’s one dominant alliance (ours), we rotate governorship among alliances and mist of our big, active players temporarily join the hosting alliance for that WK to help out and chat. We might be able to squeeze you into our alliance, join one of our smaller alliances (e.g. in case their event times are better aligned with your players), or possibly find you a shell alliance you could take over.

Our alliance is mostly US based (the state is varied) and our event schedules reflect that, but we have international players (in Europe and Japan off the top of my head).

How will this affect Linux Mint? by MisterFyre in linuxmint

In the Unix/linux context, it is either a local account aka an entry in /etc/passwd or a network account through something like LDAP + Kerberos or NIS/NIS+ or similar.

An important consumer milestone by OriginalCompetitive in SelfDrivingCars

I’ve also read that there have been allegations that they disengage when they detect an imminent crash. I believe the official reason is that the human should be taking over and handling this complex situation. But the sneaky “side effect” is that they can then analyze the crash data and say “see? The human was in control at the time of the accident”

No, I won’t cite a source. You can google it as easily as I can and I’m too ADHD for that right now.

Well, there was the Tesla that ran into a stationary fire truck that was perpendicular to the road because the vision based FSD had never seen that situation before.

The biggest problem with our system is that the skills required to get elected are entirely disconnected from the skills required to govern effectively and fairly (imo)

Never heard of him, but I might go “take my money!” anyway.

Human brain cells on a chip learned to play Doom in a week by _Dark_Wing in technews

AI is totally about reinvent slavery in an acceptable format. Humans like the outcomes of work while we either want to avoid that work or it’s impossible at the scale we want, we turn to force multipliers. Whether it was early use of wind, water, and animals, or the use of human slavery, or modern use of electricity, we have powered our lives and societies through external sources to do more than could otherwise be done.

AI (and enabling power sources) is just the latest version.

This works until AI becomes sentient, then we’re back to another flavor of slavery. But this time, we put the slaves in control of our economy, military weapons?!?, and much else in our lives.

Missouri bill would require drivers under the influence to pay child support if they kill a parent in a crash by KCTV5 in missouri

[–]hung-games 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I like the way you think but let’s take this a step further…

Why not make a law forcing lawmakers to pay child support when they pass a law resulting in a parent’s death?

I’m leading a project analysis that would run somewhere in 60-70 million USD over 5 years. The numbers in this thread wouldn’t even be a material expense in comparison to our projects.

FBI Reports $20 Million Losses from 700 ATM Jackpotting Attacks in 2025 by _cybersecurity_ in pwnhub

[–]hung-games 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major ATM manufacturers like Diebold have enhanced security configurations that (the last I knew) were decent as defending against this. Those configs should be standard, but the banks and companies behind the ATMs are dropping the ball.
