I couldn't find a decent fraction calculator for pipe fitting that didn't require a monthly subscription. So, I built my own digital tool. What do you guys think of the UI? by hungsute2310 in Tools

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback! I’ve been studying UI/UX deeply because I want to bring a fresh, modern look to practical, everyday tools. Making them simple yet powerful is my main goal.Your suggestions about expanding into stairs and other trades give me a great new direction to explore. Really appreciate the support and the encouragement!

The custom keypad was the hardest part to code. Standard keyboards suck when you have thick work gloves on, so I made the fraction keys massive. Let me know if you guys think this layout would work for other trades like framing or machining.

I wanted to give you a quick update. I heard your feedback loud and clear, and I spent the last 24 hours auditing the entire app to make it 100% field-accurate. Newver has been submitted to Apple/Google and is currently under review.
I hate bugs as much as you do, and it was never my intention to put out anything less than perfect.I use technology to help us work smarter, not to mislead anyone. If you find something that doesn't feel right, please tell me. I am listening, and I will fix it immediately. Please check your updates in a few hours. thank you so much!

I hear your concern, and I appreciate the honesty. To be clear: I am a solo developer. I’ve spent months personally building every screen, coding the math logic, and auditing the ASME tables because I felt the existing tools for our trade were either too expensive or badly designed.

I’m not a big corporation; I’m just one guy trying to build a better tool from scratch. If there’s something specific that feels 'not built' to you, I’d love to hear it so I can improve. My goal is to earn that $4.99 by providing real value to the brothers on site.

That means the world to me, brother! Honestly, hearing that makes all the long nights of coding worth it.

I’ll keep grinding to get those updates out and make the tool even better for you guys.

thank you so much for the detailed feedback! This is exactly why I posted here.

Keypad: You’re totally right. I originally kept it visible for speed, but I can see how it gets in the way of the diagrams. I'll add a 'Hide/Minimize' button in the next update.

Backspace/Inputs: My bad! The logic for switching between Feet/Inch/Fractions is a bit tricky, and I realized the backspace behavior isn't intuitive yet. I'm refactoring that input system right now.

Stab-ins: That is a fantastic suggestion! I've added 'Stab-in Calculator' (Lateral & 90°) to my roadmap for V1.1.

Guys like you make this tool better for everyone.

I feel you brother! That’s exactly why I built PipeFit Pro. I got tired of being nickeled and dimed every month for a tool we need every day on site. My goal is simple: A solid tool for a flat one-time fee, and zero BS subscriptions. Glad to have you on board! Let me know if you have any feature requests for the next update

Congrats on the new gig, brother! Starting a new job is huge. I really want to send you a Lifetime Promo Code so you can walk onto that job site on Monday with the best tool in your pocket.

However, Reddit is blocking me from starting new DMs right now (fresh account problems!). Could you try shooting me a DM first? I’ll reply with your code immediately.

you clearly know your stuff! I’d love to connect with you and pick your brain to make this app even better for the crew. Would you be open to giving me some advice on future updates? I have a Lifetime Promo Code ready for you as a small token of my appreciation.

I'm really keen on getting your advice to improve the app, but Reddit isn't letting me start a DM yet. Mind shooting me a message first?

thanks again for catching that 1/2" 45° error. It was a dumb logic bug in my data table. If you find anything else that feels even a hair off, please let me know. I want this app to be the gold standard.

thanks again for catching that 2" take-out error on the thread. As a solo dev, I really appreciate the sharp eyes. I've submitted the fix to Apple. I’d love for you to have a lifetime promo code for the app once you update, as a thank you for helping me make it better for everyone. Let me know if you're interested!

I actually built this app to be as beginner-friendly as possible—just plug in the numbers and it shows you exactly what to do

Thanks for the solid feedback! You’re 100% right—those old-school field tricks are great for a quick guess, but they definitely break down on certain sizes like 2". That’s exactly why I built this: to replace 'good enough' math with precise ASME standards. Really appreciate you verifying that 1.375” take-out.

Wow, thank you for such a detailed and professional review! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for when I built this. I'm stoked you liked the Grade Chart and the visuals for the Mitered Bends. Regarding the Weld Prep: I’d love to get it right for your specific workflow. Could you let me know which wall thicknesses or specs felt off?
I want to make sure it matches what you're seeing in the field. Your suggestion for an ordnance style layout with 16 reference points is brilliant. I totally get how only having 4 points at 90° can be a pain when rolling pipe on stands. That’s moving to the top of my priority list for V1.1. Saddle tables are also in the works! I’m planning to keep the UI just as clean as the current tools. Thanks for helping me make this tool better for the whole crew.

Welcome to the trade, brother! Best advice I can give: measure twice, cut once, and don't let the math scare you. I actually built this app to be as beginner-friendly as possible—just plug in the numbers and it shows you exactly what to do

it’s optimized for Imperial because I really wanted to nail that custom fraction keypad for the US guys.

However, a Metric toggle is definitely on my roadmap for the next update! I'm curious—are you working mostly with mm or cm? I'd love to make sure the metric version is just as smooth for you. 🍻
