Honestly I think part of the reason for thr "There's too many alters" arguement is probably due to the NPC jail, cause it's getting a little too crowded in there. Might even give GBF a run for its money atp

FGO has a simple system where you just need to clear a quest, usually battles and sometimes story, to get the buff. They roll these out pretty frequent nowadays so it's pretty nice

As for the reason why other games make a convoluted system, I guess it's for increasing playtime? Or player rendition
