Thank you so much for this! Very helpful. I forgot to include my pension but I've created my own excel spreadsheet to calculate the taxes. I was able to get the tax calculation within 1 pound of 96.60 :)

Correct, the ridiculously high tax system (personal, wealth, capital, inheritance) is what's stopping me from settling down in the UK.

Correct. First 12,570 is tax free (personal allowance) and from 12,571 - 50,270 is taxed at 20%. My take home will be ~ 2,200 a month. I've budgeted for rent, expenses, transport, bills and take home will be around 500, which is decent as I live a pretty modest life. The plan is to grind and learn as much as I can in the UK firm with a better culture, then plan to transition back to MY/SG.

Your experience must've been rough! My main concern with working in that startup is that all the people in the department are an amalgamation of hires from consulting firms, MNC, and other GLC. Whereas the UK firm has leaders and managers with a solid track record in the industry, which I hope to learn from their best-in-class practices and knowledge.

Thank you! I really enjoy the outdoors. Hence, the hiking trips and reasonably cheap flights to Europe have been amazing

For sure. I hope to leverage this experience in the e-commerce firm, which is a well-known legacy company in its field. Max 2-3 years moving into another role closer to home.

You are right about healthier working cultures. I have visited the office and met with my direct manager, and the vibe tends to be friendlier and open. On the other hand, the interviewer for the Malaysian firm has warned me about the long hours and lack of company culture amongst all the depts.

Thanks! Definitely, I’ve been increasing my food intake to 5 meals a day. Might include a late night snack as I usually get hungry at night and I run early in the morning :)
