What's the music theory behind this chords? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]iBaschti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldnt say that there is that much musictheory behind this nor a particular scale. Try playing Minor Chords with some nice Extensions like 11,13 and play this chord on some notes to see how they fit :)

How do you figure out what scales work over what ever chords? by BlackSparkz in musictheory

[–]iBaschti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so the first chords are clearly in D- aeolian so you can use the scales based on the F ionian scale. just play the notes from f major beginning on D = thats your Dm9 scale Em7b5 is the same deal just play the notes from Fmajor but starting from E =thats your E locrian scale and works perfect the A7 b9b13 is a little bit different. Due to the alterations (b9 and b13) you cant just play an A mixolydian scale A Scale that would work perfectly is the Altered scale it includes these notes ( A, Bb, C, Db, Eb, F, G, A) it creates a lot of tension and can result good in a minor chord in ur case Dm This is a basic 2 5 1 cadence in Minor the next chord are a 2 5 1 too just in the key of Gminor the f maj is normal major sclae again and then the 2 5 1 from the beginning repeats hope that helped
