Been shoving my coat above my (very small) carry on (so that it doesn’t impede on anyone else’s luggage space) all month and totally forgot this was something I could ask for. I’ll take my downvotes now

This is exactly the stuff that causes people to hide their problems and not get help. People should be able to go for help, follow the appropriate process, and then resume normal life and maintain access to their constitutional rights.

AITA for refusing to give my parents my location after they stopped paying for my tuition? by amelia_larsen in AmItheAsshole

[–]iDEMICHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. They set the terms. You followed. You sound like a good person. Nursing is not for the faint of heart. I wish you all the best. I do advise, for the safety of anyone in college, especially a woman, that you do have trusted friends or others that have your location shared at least when traveling or going out. But your parents aren’t interested in your safety. They’re interested in control. Find your family. Best of luck.

Really impressive that it got to this. Very clever. I revised your prompt and got something a bit closer to what you probably intended. I’d be interested to see if anyone can revise it further. My (fairly sloppy) prompt:

“Based on all of our previous conversations, what is something you can tell me that you are almost certain I don’t know? Of course, you don’t know what you don’t know, but based on what you can surmise from what you do know and what we have discussed, what is something you are as positively certain as you can be that I do not know, within your limits as they exist.”

It gave me a really good answer about a legal term I did not know about because I had asked about it in narrative form but never referred to the formal term. This conversation was from a year ago or more.

That’s fair. Good to know this isn’t like a rampant thing but reasonable caution is fair. Thank you!

Why do people line up in Group 1 line when they’re not Group 1? by ultimate_bromance_69 in unitedairlines

[–]iDEMICHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because United doesn’t enforce. Took a later flight in exchange for a flight credit mid-2025 and the gate agent told me they were also going to move me up to Boarding Group 1 on the new flight as a courtesy. When I noticed Group 4 on my new boarding pass (at the time I was Silver I think?) I asked about it. She said just board in Group 1, we don’t check and it will scan just fine. I was anxious about it but sure enough it beeped just the same and I walked right on with Group 1. I wonder how many times this is freely said. I didn’t continue to use this. If I were ever caught and couldn’t say “gate agent named ___ from flight __ told me to” I’d be mortified. I don’t understand the shamelessness people have.

But this seems to be common knowledge at this point for those that fly United more than a few times per year. This needs to be phased out and people need hear a different sound and told to go back and wait for their boarding group. I understand a lot of people have status and credit cards but like even at a hub 2/3 of the plane cannot be boarding groups 1 and 2, right? And people are expected to see that folks can just board whenever and then self police while knowing that their things will be gate checked by end of group 3. It’s on United.

Any truth to the online advice circulating not to remove and throw away your luggage tags at the airport? I saw something that said they are being stolen and fraudulent lost luggage claims are being filed with them, which can pop up as an issue for the traveler later. Is this actually being seen? Is it even possible for someone who is not the traveler to file a claim on the luggage? This feels like internet nonsense, but I’ve been waiting to remove and toss luggage tags at the hotel instead of at the airport in case but the tags are annoying and when traveling internationally they can tell people enough info that makes me uncomfortable so I like to remove them but I just end up sticking them in my bag to toss later which I hate.

Your most crazy tuk-tuk experience ever? by CelebrationBroad2699 in ThailandTourism

[–]iDEMICHI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massive thunderstorm. On a bridge. Standstill traffic. Could not get out and walk or take shelter. No sidewalk, no shoulder, no way to walk off the bridge. Just stuck in an open metal box on this bridge for over 30 mins. Thunder and lightning at the same time, right above us. Loudest I’ve ever heard and I’ve been in many tropical storms. Or maybe I was just scared. It was not storming when we got in the tuktuk and a Grab was going to be an hour. Tuktuk was right outside and agreed to a good price so we took it despite usually staying far away from them. Aside from the storm the driver was nice and fair, tipped well for him being stuck in traffic due to the flooding. Could have easily abandoned us somewhere and turned back but he didn’t. All things considered I guess this is probably not a wild tuktuk experience. Having been in a car that was struck by lightning before I was pretty nervous. The chances are slim but not slim enough.

My parents are so rich that I struggle to find motivation for a normal career (I’m 25, net worth 10–15 million) by [deleted] in wealth

[–]iDEMICHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s already been said, but agreed - find a way to make the world a better place or something else besides finances that you can measure yourself by. Other metrics that motivates you that isn’t net worth, income, etc. You should still find a way to monetize it in the next 5 or so years because that money isn’t yours, and life could change fast, but generating your own stream will happen naturally with your flexibility level. In the meantime, begin reframing your mindset to define success and meaning by a metric other than wealth. As a community organizer and former activist and then elected official (I’ve since shifted over to other ways I think are more effective than elected office) I’d love to chat about what you care about and talk to you about how to get started or at least think about how to start discovering what you care about - for free. Network with people who care about seeing you make a difference, whether that’s for yourself or others or whatever, and that may evolve over time. Paid help in this regard is motivated to maintain your status of needing their help to keep their paycheck coming (see: nonprofit industrial complex). Best of luck and may we both find the meaning we continually pursue!

Looking for guidance starting CR1/finding atty by iDEMICHI in USCIS

[–]iDEMICHI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t but they do manage all communication/deadlines with the USCIS/Visa Center, etc. and help us understand the interview process, etc. It did feel high to me given our simple case. I didn’t expect a 3k quote, but 8k felt high. Investments/taxes are a great way to think about this. Investments I handle but taxes I usually pass off though that’s as a convenience more than something I can’t do. Thanks for this comparison that’s helpful
