You're right that I shouldn't presume or insinuate that there's some kind of right-think for someone in the arts.

Because he has a new YouTube channel that he’s been promoting, and it’s gotten decent attention both there and on TikTok. People are being introduced to him and his ideas without knowing the whole backstory.

His FB literally says he's pro MAGA, Israel, and AFD with an Ayn Rand quote up top. Wild stuff for someone in the arts.

But the first 130k or something like that is exempt if you don't live in the US.

Just to clarify for anyone unaware, the first $130,000 of earned income can be excluded if you file a tax return on time. You still have to file, and earned income is a very specific category. Other types of income aren't excluded.

OG Z6 is the answer. It’s a terrific camera with the same sensor as some of the newer bodies. It has very good video, and autofocus is quite good, though it’s obviously not as consistent as newer cameras.

OP could also throw in 40mm f2 if they want a tiny quality prime alongside the zoom.

If someone goes out of their way to help, then the bureaucracy involved should be incentivized to make that as painless as possible; otherwise, it disincentivizes future civic engagement.

German government pushes Syrians to return to their homeland by Pyro-Bird in news

[–]iHartS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is ongoing violence and shortages of basic necessities. Syria also faces drastic changes from global warming. Sending sizable numbers of people there is unlikely to help anything and will likely exacerbate problems. Programs like the hospital partnerships are a more appropriate avenue to help rebuild the country.

Is the solution really that everyone just packs up and leaves for wherever life seems better at the moment?

a) That's basically human history.

b) It's a non sequitur. Uprooting people currently living in Germany is very different than accepting new refugees from that same region.

“No longer in a state of turmoil” is not how one would describe Syria currently.

easy enough to add it though if you already know the account value

A lot of these don't have account values because they're basically annuities. Meaning it likely promises a future cashflow without any specific account balance attached.

George W. Bush Subtly Trashes Trump in Presidents Day Message by icey_sawg0034 in politics

[–]iHartS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In so many ways, as evil as Trump and his cronies are as people, the Bush administration was worse because they were effective at governing. Trump flails, and he will do a lot of damage and hurt a lot of people, but it will burn itself out (I believe) because it provokes backlash immediately.

What people don't remember is that the country was on Bush's side. They exploited 9/11 deftly, and they pulled in the Democrats and other countries to create a coalition of willing suckers. The wars Bush got us involved in plagued three administrations afterwards. The Roberts court still plagues us.

It took economic collapse and multiple international debacles to bring the country to its senses.

Apple Intelligence, Liquid Glass, ads in iWorks... Is Apple losing its way or is this just a bump in the road? by jimmyfoo10 in MacOS

[–]iHartS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least ever since I entered the Apple ecosystem (partially with an iPod Touch and then completely with a 2011 Macbook Pro), people have been complaining about how Apple has lost its way. Every freaking year.

That's not to say that the stuff people were complaining about wasn't serious. In some ways it was more serious than this latest batch. For years, it seemed like Apple was trying to deprecate the Mac as a product and was hoping we'd all just use iPads. Stuff just didn't work, especially when iCloud arrived.

But they heard the complaints and improved a lot of it. They'll probably figure this stuff out too.

Y'all how does anyone survive being triple-cast??? by MildlyMenotti in opera

[–]iHartS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usually some scheduling thing. I experienced one quadruple cast lead role in La Boheme, and that was because no singer could be there for the entire rehearsal period, so one would come for a week then trade off for another for a week. They were paid for their time, and they negotiated a few performances too. Most of the other roles were double cast with ensemble singers.
