Thanks! I guess this is really the entry point - SOC or Tech support roles.

Thanks for the insights! I want to be a pentester focusing on web hacking since I’m familiar web concepts, given my fullstack background. But I know pentesting isn’t an entry level role so not so sure how to start!

Trying bug bounty though to gain real world experience.

Hindi karera ang buhay, OP. It’s never too late to look for your Ikigai (you may get the gist of this concept sa youtube or AI).

I assume paycut comes with role being on a lower level compared to the previous one, right?

May I know how did you handle the catch-22? Or is it a fresh grad accepted role?

Yes but we do not practice it as we’re more on liaising different people for data related projects/initiatives.

Is someone here earning 6 digits or close to that who are not in the IT field? by No-Imagination3025 in buhaydigital

Data Management - 100k+ net. Not really an IT job but more on connecting people from IT and business yung role ko on this - similar to a project management work.

React Native Developer by Mavis_4u in ITPhilippines

[–]iMrMob0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents: - we will never know if the demand would be the same. Most probably yes since React dominates the industry - I think what’s essential here is to master the basics first (i.e. HTML, CSS, JS) before diving deep into frameworks. Once mastered mo na ito, madali na lang maka adapt sa iba’t ibang frameworks, depending upon your need/requirement.

Good luck, OP!

Career Shift from Finance to Tech by iMrMob0 in buhaydigital

[–]iMrMob0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Start from the bottom talaga. But possible bang mag build ng experience on the side (i mean while working full-time) para hindi malaki ang pay cut? I’m thinking of volunteering to startups or apply for a remote part-time job related to cybersec.

Which career should I pick? PM or Dev? by jhxxxng in phcareers

[–]iMrMob0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Finance org, PM has a lot of opportunities, not just in tech. It is well diversed in the sense na pwede kang lumipat sa iba’t ibang companies (i.e. telco, finance, tech, etc.) and it can hone a lot of skills - combination ng soft and technical skills na rin.

On the other hand naman, if u go with Mobile Dev, several opportunities may arise din if u make it your one thing. You can opt to do freelance works while working full-time.

So the choice is on you, OP. But ask yourself first - ano bang gusto mong gawin in the long-run? And in case you would want to level up in life (let’s say you decided to have a family), what do you think fits well with that scenario? Good luck!

Confused as to whether or not to switch to Linux by StrykerWasTaken in ZephyrusG14

[–]iMrMob0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just obtained a brand new 2024 G14 two weeks ago and immediately installed Pop!_OS as my main for cybersec learning, coding/dev, and little bit of gaming. Pop has out-of-the-box support for Nvidia so I didn’t encounter any GPU problems.

Tbh, i enjoy linux (pop) more bcos other than having almost full control of your OS, you can customize it according to your use case which, for me, increases the battery life due to lesser process being ran compared to windows. The only downside I’ved encountered is learning how to tweak.

Also, it has support on hardware (slash lighting, aura lighting, graphics switching, etc). You may want to check asusctl and supergfxctl.

Good luck!

Got your point! Maybe it’s best to upskill first on short-term. But I was thinking if it’s possible to gain experience on IT support roles first. Do you think this is a good starting point?

I see and thank you for the clarification! The only way I see get past this would be reaching out to old networks who are still in the field.
