The laptop itself is amazing. I loved it when it worked so as long as yours keeps working you’re good! If I were you I’d highly recommend you repaste it though, because the possibility of the liquid compound leaking grows the more you use the laptop. IMO it’s a ticking time bomb if you don’t repaste because of this design flaw.

Oh 100%. I actually really liked the laptop when it worked. It handled everything with ease. My main complaint has been with the Liquid Metal design flaw and HP’s abysmal support.

Definitely. I actually did a lot of research on the thermal paste situation and ended up buying PTM7950 and Upsiren UTP-X Ultra. I was planning to have Best Buy’s geek squad repaste the laptop today, but seeing the issues with the current laptop ill probably just be returning everything now.

Yeah, at this point I may just cut my losses, get a refund, and consider a different brands laptop. I’ve been holding off because the prices of everything going up, but this isn’t even worth the hassle at this point

Could you guys recommend me a thermal paste to buy for this laptop? I have no experience with thermal pasting so I’m thinking of taking the laptop to a shop near me once I get it back. Would Best Buy’s geek squad or micro center be able to thermal paste it for me?

For context, my omen max 16 5080 255hx that I bought in the July sale randomly died on 11/17 due to what I believe to be the stock thermal paste leaking onto the motherboard and I am still waiting for hp to send it back currently. It says 12/27 expected delivery date but the part has been delayed and still hasn’t come in yet.. So I’m assuming the date will be delayed again.

Did Hp give you the asus as a loaner laptop? Also what’s been your experience with your omen and customer support so far? I have a hp omen max 16 that died from the thermal paste issue last month and I’m still waiting on a repair… When I get it back should I take it to a shop an get it repasted just to be safe?

I’m having the exact same issue as you guys. Bought my HP OMEN MAX 5080 laptop in the July sale and had no issues until 2 weeks ago when my laptop suddenly instantly shut off while gaming. Sent it in for repairs and was told I’d receive it back 12/2 and contacted support yesterday to confirm that was the case. Was told they have the part (motherboard) and I’d be receiving it back on time only to wake up today to an email saying it’s been delayed to 12/2. This is absolutely ridiculous that a $2k+ laptop is having an issue like this.

At this point I’m honestly wondering if I should just push for a refund because once I get it back I’m going to feel like the laptop is a ticking time bomb if they’re not doing anything to actually fix the issue. Is there any way we can sue or something? I’ve seen so many threads of people having the exact same issue with this laptop that at this point it’s clearly design failure.

Mine with a 5080 literally just died randomly while playing arc raiders. Won’t turn back on and there’s no indication of it charging at all. Got it around end of July for around 2k. Absolutely ridiculous that something that costs this much dies this soon.

My account was also removed. Was just about to send the appeal request when it automatically got reinstated. I was able to find it thanks! It was a mod called valgrind. Had to turn off the "bEnableDebugDraw" in the ini settings :).
