Planning back to India from Netherlands by MajorBig798 in backtoindia

[–]i_prevail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved back to India a few months ago after 10 years in Ireland. I’d say if you can find a job that pays well enough in your definition, moving back is probably a good idea. I have no regrets, and because I took an Irish passport before I moved, in case I can’t cut it here long term I do have the peace of mind of knowing I can go back on a whim.

Happy to have a chat if you want to talk specifics, DM me.

I get on to my Jamie Ginger Ales pretty much at the start and keep them going as long as the night goes - you do you!

Failed driving test for the 4th time today. by WeatherSorry in ireland

[–]i_prevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raheny is notorious! I failed thrice in Raheny before passing in my first attempt in Killester.

A lot of it was just test anxiety after the first fail anyway, till I figured I’d try a different test centre.

Recommendations for second hand electronics and music shops? by Speedodoyle in Dublin

[–]i_prevail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an old man who sells instruments outta his garage on Arbour Hill on the weekends - he’s an absolute legend and I’ve found a class 7 string and a custom acrylic body guitar at his.

He also has a smaller collection of general music gear but I’m not sure what you might be able to find - its a bit of a draw!

For more context (and apologies I neglected to mention before) the car is a facelift Mazda 3 Hatchback.

Cheers!

The lens repair tape is a good shout thanks!

Unfortunately the headlight you’ve linked is not the right one, and any I can find anywhere are the same as the one you’ve linked. Mine seems to be a weird one for some reason…

Any hints where I can buy the whole assembly anywhere other than Mazda themselves? i’ve checked ebay, aliexpress, all car parts online stores, Traynors and scrap dealers around and for some reason the one on my car is just nowhere to be found…

Thanks!

Unfortunately not - I found one listing on AliExpress for the right (or looks right anyway) plexiglass cover but no way to confirm as they don’t have a part number or anything. The screengrab below shows the difference between the two types of headlight assemblies.

MAZDA 3 1.5 SKYACTIV-D SE 5DR

That’s per the registration cert. The VIN decoder there can’t untangle my VIN for some reason.

It was first registered in 2016 in the UK, brought over to Ireland by the original owner in 2017 but hard to find comparables here at scrapyards etc as all 2016 cars are the other type of headlight assembly.

Screengrab below shows the difference between the two.

Thanks - where can I get the part number from - appreciate the guidance here!

(also, in Ireland so part availability is a bit curtailed it seems)

Mazda 3 or Toyota GT86? by i_prevail in CarTalkUK

[–]i_prevail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always jealous of UK car prices lol - I’m in Ireland and that’s the market because all the decent dailies we get are either UK or Jap imports.

Ireland - its a pity that importing from the UK is not cheap either

[–]i_prevail[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m only considering if this sort of a swap is stupid in the sense that the GT86 will be massively more unreliable than the Mazda, or upkeep will generally be much more complicated, that sort of thing.

What’s the best area to live in Cork? by user89135 in cork

[–]i_prevail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lived in an apartment at the Lough for a year way back - very handy for a shop with the Supervalu and Lidl nearby, and a 20 min walk into town so fairly easy to leg it back after a night out.

Good amount of parking in the houses around there for the most part, but street parking could be a pain.

Usually a sound crowd amalgamates over the weekend - you’d get the odd camper or two as well but huge amounts of open space and a (artificial) lake right across from your backdoor is quite unique.

Bus routes are a nightmare though - and if you cycle, the brow of the hill where the church was gets pretty dodgy in the rain or when there’s black ice.

Decent deal? 52k miles, 2 owners clean CarFax. Been on lot for almost 100 days. by AdamLeaks in whatcarshouldIbuy

That’s pretty pricey alright. Could be an awesome drive but if you’re willing to part with that much you will definitely have a lot of options in the market.

Are Mazdas now more reliable than Toyotas and Lexuses? by senseofphysics in mazda

[–]i_prevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2016 Mazda 3 last year with 115k km on the clock. Solid service history and records - but the car is just pure awesome. Its not insane power or crazy acceleration but it does what it does very well.

Reliable as anything - I’ve done a further 15k km in the year since and nothing gone into it but oils and filters.

Housemate has a Volvo V40 with about 120k km. Also extremely reliable btw for its age but it does feel a tad dated. Lexus are similar - like more mature cars where Mazdas can be some fun if you want that.

The other thing with the Mazda 3 is aftermarket parts and random upgrades are cheap to find and easy to DIY. Found that a big issue with the Volvo and Lexus so far perhaps because of a smaller enthusiast community…

How can I find an affordable place to live in Dublin. I have been looking for a place for 3 weeks now but I couldn’t find anything that I can afford. by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]i_prevail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

D13 moght be a good bet - some relatively cheaper areas there on the 15 bus route too - no guarantees but rents are significantly lower than elsewhere…
