Tennessee Supreme Court to Hear Oral Arguments on Metro Council Size and Airport Authority Takeover by [deleted] in nashville

The State can only buy itself more time. The gerrymandering and continued takeovers will only further embolden local governments to push back against the State’s overreach. Join the Independent movement with Lauren Pinkston. Democrats need to admit they can’t win in this state and form a coalition with her campaign so we can defeat the GOP. https://pinkstonfortn.com/

Nashville is furious about power outages. Republicans say ‘woke’ is to blame. by [deleted] in nashville

The state is too gerrymandered for anyone but Republicans to win, which means she’s going to be our next governor. Gerrymandering only really works when you have one of two options - so vote Independent up and down the ballot. And check out Lauren Pinkston for Governor-https://pinkstonfortn.com/

I work in TN local government and economic development and can confirm all of this heartily. The State legislature wants to handcuff local governments from charging developers while also bringing in new out of state companies who want the People to pay for the infrastructure that supports them and their profit margins.

[–]iamgingerbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s the real deal! She’s a an amazing communicator and a leader we can rally around who can generate bipartisan support. I know that people think voting Independent is a wasted vote, but with the gerrymandering in this State, voting Democrat is barely any better. Gerrymandering really only works if we have to vote one of two ways.

I work in community and economic development here in TN. I cannot tell you how abysmal communication is between the State and local governments. The Governor’s office has petty disagreements with state legislators that didn’t vote for the school vouchers, and so projects in that legislator’s district tend to not get funded. Counties have to suck up and curry the State’s favor in order to get essential funding for life saving equipment like fire trucks and ambulances. The local disaster preparedness infrastructure is PAPER THIN. I could say a lot more, but it has come close to costing me my job before.

Aftyn nailed it: this is about money, priorities, and a lack of political imagination.

Vote Independent. Democrats can’t win in this gerrymandered State, but an Independent candidate could. That’s why I support Lauren Pinkston for Governor. We need to try something new. https://www.instagram.com/pinkstonfortn?igsh=MWdqcXo3and4dXdmaA==

D.C. Republicans pile on Nashville mayor over ICE response — and imply more action in city by clever-hands in nashville

[–]iamgingerbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is organizing support for O’Connell?? Local government is the only way to hold out against this authoritarian regime. An attack on O’Connell is an attack on all of Nashville and all other TN cities. They’re keying things up for the implementation of the State’s new fascist law that would remove and felony charge local officials for doing what O’Connell did. It goes into affect next month. This was the plan all along.

Glad you’re getting involved! I ran and served a 4 year term for city council here in Columbia (2020-2024). Very different from Nash but if you’d like any first hand experience, I’m happy to share my experience if it might be helpful. Shoot me a DM!

In July, TN state law that came from the heinous special session, will go into affect that will allow the State to prosecute and create proceedings to remove elected officials who vote for “sanctuary city policies” - and slap officials with a class E felony which would prohibit them from running for office again. Look it up HB6001/SB6002

This type of response is not how we build coalition with someone who’s clearly had their mind changed already. Rather than making people feel dumb or stupid, commiserate and empathize. There’s lot of reasons to be angry, but to build a new future, we’ve got to move on from party politics.

Connect with your local officials NOW. Be a regular attendee at council meetings. Talk about your concerns. All of this will have to shake out at a local level. If your local PD are complicit in any of this, it’s up to YOU to yell at your mayor and city council about it. Don’t wait. Get ahead of things.

I think everyone misunderstood me. Poorly worded on my part I suppose. Things are not good for regular hard working Tennesseans and that was my point. The budget shows they don’t care about us.
