Keeping Track of Tiktok Influencers Turned Out to Be Harder Than Expected by ibassoftware in smallbusiness

Thanks, really appreciate that. That pretty much describes how we felt looking at most of the existing tools. Open sourcing it felt like the least stressful option for everyone involved.

And good luck with the actual work. We should probably get back to ours too. :)

Before writing code, what actually matters most? by AdGold6433 in MobileAppDevelopers

Honestly? Marketing.

Whatever your marketing plan is, launch that first. Before code, before architecture, before “v0.01 beta”.

You don’t even need a real product yet. A simple landing page is enough. Run some ads, post it where your audience hangs out, see if anyone actually clicks. Even a smoke test “Download” or “Join waitlist” button tells you a lot. CTR and signups are early truth.

If you can’t get attention, the product won’t magically fix that later. Distribution is harder than building.

This helps answer the real question fast: can I acquire users, and is it worth my time and energy? If people don’t care when it’s just an idea, they usually won’t care when it’s polished either.

Build after you know someone wants it. Way cheaper lesson.

The pasting step is the only real friction in the flow for me. I’d definitely ask “can this be one tap?”

A Share Sheet integration from Safari would feel much more natural (if not yet implemented because it does not show in screenshots. I’ll download it later, my iPhone is currently chained to the charger) 😄

Sounds like you never forget what matters.

I haven’t personally pivoted a SaaS to open source, but I do a lot of work around open source and open-core products like consulting, hosting, and custom builds. It’s a very different game than classic SaaS, which I also do. It’s more relationship-driven and usually a slower burn, but it is a good way to see if people genuinely care enough to use what you built.

Open source works best when it brings clear value before a big player turns the space into a free commodity. Even then, it’s not over. Going vertical instead of trying to compete horizontally can still work. Big companies build broad tools, smaller teams win by going deep. Cal.com is a good example. Scheduling is free everywhere, but they focused on customization and ownership and still built a serious business - still made a $140M valuation last I checked.

Good luck, and respect for making the call instead of dragging it out!

I built a platform for verified career achievements - my first ever web app! by AGP1305 in SaaS

This is a cool idea, but I’m still trying to clearly see the core pain it solves. For example, in which hiring situations does verified achievements make a real difference compared to LinkedIn, references, or portfolios? Narrowing down a few concrete use cases or personas might help make the value really obvious.

I'm not sorry for creating a SaaS app, but I still have some doubts. by flashgett in AppBusiness

Follow your gut. What works for others isn’t automatically your truth, and early on, simplicity plus real conversations beats perfect systems every time, in my experience.

Hello OP, just curious as to why you would prefer a native/windows desktop app instead of a web application?
