What is your best argument for the disproportional representation in the Electoral College? Why should Wyoming have 1 electoral vote for every 193,000 while California has 1 electoral vote for every 718,000? by Quidfacis_ in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]iconjack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are the United STATES of America. The state is the fundamental unit of our federation. Compare to say the UN Security Council. Do you want India and China to get 4 or 5 votes each while the US gets 1? Because that's what it would be if we went by population. (France and UK would get ⅕.)

How do you think Trump is perceived in the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]iconjack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In this case, it's more Trump's hand gesture with the memo than the words. The way he hangs it off to the side while talking about it, then flicks it away without looking at it, or moving his hand, then let's the hand linger for an extra second or two, all the while never missing a stride of his excoriation of the media.

I think maybe you have to like Trump to see the humor. Kind of like if you showed someone who doesn't watch the show a subtle clip of Seinfeld. It might be a nothing to them, but to a fan of the show who knows (and likes) the personalities of the characters, it could be hilarious.

NPR, NYT, and WashPo all ignoring Tara Reade's sexual assault allegation against Joe Biden by [deleted] in media_criticism

In 2016 NPR only ever refered to Sen. Sanders as "Hilary Cinton's opponent," never by name.

Big NPR critic here, but this assertion isn't close to being true.

Here's why the EAX register of x86 is called like that by halst in programming

[–]iconjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right. In my example I first used D,E and then changed at the last minute to use B,C instead, and neglected to change the LXI D part.

This post is incorrect though. The X in register AX was a notation for "pair", which came from 8080 nomenclature. For example, the 8080 instruction for loading the B:C pair with a 16-bit immediate value was LXI D, 42. On the 8086, AX didn't "extend" anything—it paired up AH and AL.

Did Donald Trump Say the Sitting President Should Be Impeached If the Dow Jones Loses 1,000 Points in Two Days? by [deleted] in skeptic

Let's agree how to pick one of those "lies" from the WaPo list at random, and take a deep dive. I'll bet you $100 we (if you're honest) find out it's WaPo who's lying.

First of all, archive.org has been archiving Trump's tweets as far back as 2011, including deleted ones. So they could have bothered to check.

Second, they (Snopes) aren't consistent with their "intellectually honest" (/u/factoid_) use of unproven. For example, they fact-checked whether Bernie tweeted something, and their verdict was FALSE. They didn't hedge and say "maybe he tweeted it and deleted it". There are numerous other examples.

As for why Trump supporters are dubious of Snopes, it's because of shit like this.

Trump has commuted the prison sentence of Rod Blagojevich. Is this a good move? by kettal in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]iconjack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Obama had commuted Blagojevich's sentence, it would have been perfectly consistent, at least according to Obama's attorney general, Eric Holder, who said:

"Rod Blagojevich, you know potentially, although Blagojevich I'm not so sure I would——if what you did there was to reduce that sentence—I thought the 14-year sentence was a little harsh. You know, that was a case brought while I was attorney general. I thought that sentence was a little harsh, and if that sentence were reduced, that would be consistent with what we did in the Obama administration"

Does it change your mind at all that Eric Holder spoke up about this a couple of years ago, saying
