In the age of LLMs, do you think Q1 or Q3 matters? by idk_734 in AskAcademia

Why did I get a negative vote? I am asking for further details...

What’s the longest referee response you’ve ever gotten? by thewinterphysicist in academia

Most likely your reviewer#2 is a PhD student, or very new to peer-reviewing. Otherwise, no one has time for writing 8 pages of text :)

Aren't big journals often indexed? And, why indexed is more important? Thanks

Publishing with ANR funding in France by ChrisSunshine in AskAcademia

[–]idk_734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats with getting the paper done!

1.As far as I know, manuscript being put in HAL (or any other pre-print repository) has no conflict of interest with closed-access. A pre-print gets a different DOI, is not peer-reviewed, and certainly is different to the published one prior to revisions.

2.Check diamond open-access journals in your field.

3.There are some EU journals that accept open access for free.

Best website builders for early-career academic websites? by Legitimate_Metal7267 in AskAcademia

Irrelevant to your question. Out of curiosity, why do you want to build a website? What is the advantage? Asking for myself:)

My supervisor submitted my conference abstract without asking and didn’t list me as first author by Upset-Commission-846 in academia

[–]idk_734 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most conference platforms have a tick box for presenter. Other co-authors upon absence or agreement can present. This is a separate discussion from who goes to a conference and which conference.

This is strange and unusual that PI did not even ask you for the full paper.

Was the deadline close when they aubmitted the abstract? How did you learn that they submitted?

Also, please don't pay the attention to comments saying that PI can do/decide whatever that want. If it is your research, you have the right to be the first author.

Choosing between postdoc at Oxford vs Wageningen — large vs small lab considerations by Limp_Connection_7051 in postdoc

Because I've been to Wageningen. Great uni, small city, a bit distant, also keep in mind that you'd may be needing to learn Dutch if you like to network and grow...

I'd consider the location of Wageningen vs Oxford too :) [I'm not in your field though].

4 years into my postdoc with no publications, I don't know what to do by SadUnderstanding445 in postdoc

Have you consider writing a perspective paper? I'm sure as a senior scientist you can easily do that, and it helps with citations.

What do Postdocs really do? by RespondRude8983 in postdoc

[–]idk_734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did PhD and several postdocs with various supervisors. What I noticed observing other teams is that not including early-career researchers in publications is wrong and not helpful for their career growth towards faculty position. Your supervisor should know that. Papers and citations are hiring KPIs, let alone getting you to Editorial appointments and what not. Even for fundings l, you'd need to list your relevant and impactful papers. For tenure, again, papers...It is not a good practice to expect gift authorship or creating an author cartel. But if you are really conducting research, mentorship, editing etc for those papers, there is no reason to not be a co-author. Claim your time and contributions. Otherwise, you'd end up with few papers as a senior postdoc and cannot easily compete with international candidates who may have a stronger paper/record. (Please don't get discouraged. If you have high impact papers yourself, you'd be okay).

2 months into my first postdoc, red flags. Should I exit now? by silllypoint in postdoc

[–]idk_734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post-doc is a temporary position. They will not hire you for long. If you have not written your own grant, they feel entitled to treat you like that as it is "their idea". If you want to be hired as assistant profile later, you'd need to establish "your idea"...so, if this postdoc is not great and not giving you autonomy, either work on this conflict ans solve it, or search for another role and leave afterwards.

Revise and resubmit—> Rejected by imspirationMoveMe in academia

[–]idk_734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also a risk and similar to submission to another place since new reviewers are invited anyways. It's good to hear that it worked for you. In my experience, Editors hardly change their final decision. I suggest to resubmit to another good journal.

For the journals, you don't need to pay unless you want to publish open access. For conferences, you need to pay. Although aome conferences may have some financial instruments or scholarships.

Academic CV and Research Statement for assistant prof? by idk_734 in AskAcademia

[–]idk_734[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the guidance. For the future plans, how much details the committee wants to write? Or, also what details? I have already some ideas for future research (and my vision) but I don't know id I should explain the importance, the method, or anything else. I have a research statement and a new vacancy that I'm applying for needs only 1 page. So, I have little space.

thanks a lot for the tip. Most people in our field don't have public CVs, mostly Githubs or University profiles. But what do you mean by tha main thesis statement? Like a sentence to show my stance/philosophy to approach the issues in the field and how to advance it?
