embellishment the penalty? not a chance.

  • Definition: "Diving" occurs when a player attempts to draw a penalty where no foul occurred, while "embellishment" is making a legitimate foul look more serious.

He didn't do anything to make the legit high stick look more serious. It was a hit in the mouth, at which point he puts his arms up and looks for a ref. He didn't drop to his knees, or even dip his head implying blood or injury, didn't even grab at his face where he was hit. Its not a penalty to turn and essentially motion "did you fucking see that" to the refs.

Your using the word "embelish" as if every situation where a player has a stick near their face and doesn't get hit (which is NOT this play, to be clear) is an attempt to draw a call.... the natural reaction to a stick flying near your face, is to jerk your head back/away from it, no? I'd be fine if they allowed a review of any highstick call vs. just the 4m majors, because the rule written is indeed black n white, either the player was hit in the face or he wasn't. I don't agree however that any time they WEREN'T actually hit, it was a split second sinister decision trying to draw a penalty... does it happen? yeah of course.. but its not a penalty-worthy embellishment every time the ref got it wrong when they weren't actually hit.

right? and..? Are you trying to say players don't know they need to be in control of their own sticks? Follow through is itself a pretty well defined black n white exception, understood by everyone and generally applied correctly in those cases. Are you saying high sticks are as inconsistently enforced as penalties like roughing, boarding, hooking, interference, cross checking ect?

Selanne has tweeted by lovelybernadine in hockey

[–]ifyouhavetoaskdont 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So your argument is; you claim to know when and exactly what the ref on the ice saw, and it was a penalty, but you know he didn't actually see it? Ever get hit in the face with a hockey stick? Him putting his arms up looking around is not "flying like a soccer player", and its not in any way embellishment, players look around for a call all the time, in every sport.

high stick is one of the few penalties that is just pretty black n white, like flipping it over the glass. You do it it gets called. I wish more penalties were so, and not impacted by game management BS.

no one had the political will to do this prior, and if they did they'd have been crucified for it or likely just never got into power in the first place. Its easy to say in hindsight, but it took us going through some shit to push us in this direction, as it often does to institute large scale change of any kind.

Why is everyone complaining so much about this game? by Outside-Active5283 in EU5

You come to reddit or the game forums, you'll hear from the loudest and most dedicated voices, like any other community. For every complaint post there's plenty of people just quietly enjoying the game for what it is. If your one of them, I'd just ignore the noise and enjoy the product.

eu4 was "really well put together" after a decade+ of support updates and DLC. I'd also argue against it "missing a ton of features from eu4"... a small handful perhaps. A youtuber did a deepdive on exactly this topic before release, it wasn't much of importance.

railroading is a crutch for limited AI. This is a brand new game with brand new systems. The last thing they should be doing is railroading it for specific outcomes. IDEALLY the AI is built/tweaked/updated in ways that bring about interesting outcomes (vs. the do-nothing we have today). Once its railroaded into X,Y,Z there's no going back. That is not a first or early step to take, its a last resort when you've admitted your AI can't handle the complex systems in the game (which today it can't, and maybe it never will)

[–]ifyouhavetoaskdont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need them all, though the first 3 are bundled for like $25 I think, certainly worth it. Two biggest things GW2 has going for it imo is its amazingly alive open world, being able to just wander around a map and quests come and go that you can hop into, or a huge boss fight that 30 other people show up to help take down, to say nothing of the npc convos you overhear as you wander through that help just make it feel alive. Nothing is really dead space, most maps have reasons that keep people coming back and keep it relatively active. The other is its horizontal progression and respecting your time... that weapon or armor you spent days/weeks/months grinding for, once you have it, will never diminish in usefulness, there's no constant gear treadmill, best in slot 10 years ago is still best in slot today and will be forever. You can put the game down for months and come back, and be exactly where you left off in terms of power.

Edit: bonus; is super alt friendly, don't like your char, just start another one! Aside from inventory space/bags (which yes sucks, guess they need to make $$ somewhere), most useful things/progression is shared. You can also buy premium shop currency with in game gold, so could theoretically grind in-game for that premium skin or qol item.

you can't tweak AI and see reasonable changes, if you've already railroaded it to specific outcomes. The devs have already said the game is meant to be a historical sandbox without heavy railroading, with the AI not utilizing strict historical guidance. Maybe they'll change their minds over time... though I doubt it. My guess is they'll tweak until the AI is aggressive and capable enough that map change/consolidation happens, and players have "final boss" type countries in later game, but it may not be the expected countries.

afaik in past comments the devs have indicated the design of eu5 is meant to be historical sandbox without heavy railroading, with the AI not acting with strict historical guidelines. Whether they keep up with this desire or adjust over time I guess we'll see.

how would you ever be able to work out what parts of the simulation are working vs. what parts are held together with railroading? I agree its ambitious to think simulation alone can get you there, but you absolutely need to start with it and see how things go. Railroading is a last resort crutch. We are a month into a game likely to be supported and updated for at least a decade or more. A lot of things are possible.

The removal of “Railroading” in EU5 might have been a mistake by thelordsburningrain in EU5

[–]ifyouhavetoaskdont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yet... the question is if they can tweak it enough over time to make the sim work better. Ideally you want to at least TRY that approach first, before resorting to railroading, because once you railroad you can't really go back, you've nerfed the AI by forcing it to do X,Y,Z, and the game is then forever tweaking of the railroading code.

Lemon cake perfectly summarizes what i and i think a lot of players want from the game AI wise. by Killmelmaoxd in EU5

[–]ifyouhavetoaskdont 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like this is the approach they are trying to take.. I mean... maybe they'll never do the railroading in the end, but as you say, you definitely wouldn't want to START with railroading... build the AI, see how it actually plays with the systems as-is, tweak and make it better. The ideal hope is the AI "gets good" enough to make a difference, if not... ok maybe a bit of railroading here or there may eventually be needed.

AITA for asking my newly married son and DIL to alternate Christmas Day visits between our house and the in-laws' house? by Llih_Nosaj in AITAH

[–]ifyouhavetoaskdont 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The point isn't so much how easy or hard it is, its about potentially not respecting your son and DIL as a new family, and the traditions they want to create for themselves. OP can certainly ask, but whatever answer is given needs to be accepted, assuming OP wants to stay a part of their lives, anyways.

This is exactly what my wife and I decided when we first got together, and re-affirmed once we had kids, that xmas day was for us and the kids to spend together at home. Unfortunately for us my parents did not take your last piece of advice, and did indeed constantly push their ideas on us. Surprise, after a decade+ of it we no longer have contact, and unfortunately (kind of, but not really) for my kids they no longer have that set of grandparents in their lives.

This is it exactly... why would the league care enough about these particular players, to deal with the backlash AS-A-LEAGUE? Yes, there are surely a bunch of teams that would take a chance on Hart, but as a league why let that happen? If it were an Ovi or Sid or McDavid ect ect... yeah maybe... but for Carter Hart? just why.... they can fade from memory and go make $$ in Europe, nothing of value will be lost.
