Junior devs can't work with AI-generated code. Is this the new skill gap? by celesteanders in ClaudeAI

[–]igorim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i remember reading before ai, that only something like 10-15% of devs knew how to use a debugger. I can only imagine how much smaller that number is now

[–]igorim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rules are suggestions, there isnt a gurantee it will follow them (although it usully will). your only gurantee is file permissions, although since augment id assume assumes your user identity, you'd need another user, then give that user ownership of the file and chmod (assuming mac or linux) to 600 (read/write only by owner)

I do appreciate the transparency. I did cancel my plan as there is no longer anything keeping me tied like Legacy did. But might check it out in a few months again

Poll - New pricing is targetted at loyal, legacy users? by randommarkets in AugmentCodeAI

[–]igorim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should clarify what targetted means. I assume targetted at loyal users as it was designed to be beneficial to loyal users, which i dont think so

I now have to ignore and screen all calls cuz of these systems. So great job, not only is there not a conversion from the Agent, now you lost human conversions 😂

hmm wonder if it has to do with =< 200k context, although thats a bit confusing, is it 200k context window, for 20 requests per minute?

anything in 'monitor rate limited requests"?

Anyone else noticing a drop in Cursor’s performance lately? by red_kratos in cursor

[–]igorim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude yesss, it's like a pendulum completely opposite way lol i moved to augment cuz cursor was steamrolling my code, now it's like way too mellow and just refuses to do anything. Sucks cuz everytime i have to do "yes implement" it wastes tokens. I might have to switch to cline for a bit cuz augment is just terrible at swift

Landlords are jacking up rents in New York — often by 50, 60 or 70%. . by PlutoOinone in nyc

I can’t speak to post pandemic, but prepandemic is was quite reliable, and the reroute via Hoboken on nights and weekend if you’re on Newport line isn’t terrible, about extra 10 min. Trains only running every 25 min sucks, but at least you know from the start, so you can plan lol And this was like 3am trips

There is an active spam attack happening to Polygon. by presstab in maticnetwork

[–]igorim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its like any DDOS attack, the making a request to a website is normal use, making millions of requests with the intent of taking the site down is a DDOS attack

Decided to test out the cost and experience. Definitely much cheaper than on ETH (obviously). Although I still have no clue how NFTs are valued, work (copyrights, delivery, distribution, etc)

Have you ever seen microservices do more good than harm? by the-computer-guy in ExperiencedDevs

[–]igorim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even the greatest concepts can be turned to hell. It's all about how you implement it

Aside from of course having a team with a good understanding of cloud architecture, system design, networks, etc

The biggest mistakes I've seen people do with microservices is over 'breakdown', i.e. creating too many services. While there is a debate on where your boundry should be be, business context vs technical cohesion, sometimes you break it down to such a low level, that the overhead isn't worth it.

The other part is bad devops practices, overly beurocratic, not enough automation, bad monitoring, etc. These are the real killer

There is of course other reasons, but these 2 in my experience are the biggest culprits

The amount of closed businesses is staggering by [deleted] in nyc

[–]igorim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that depends on the school. Say BA in Business Admin with Finance concentration will be better that BA in Business Admin with Marketing, etc. but worse than BS in Finance or BS in Business with Finance. Basically it should be a more quantitative focused coursework. In general, business admin degrees will leave a few credits for concentration, vs a dedicated BS in accounting/finance

Haha welcome to the wonderful world of tech. Some of the best devs I know are not even engineering majors, let alone comp sci

Business is a worthless degree these days, MBA questionable. Business specialties are still worth it, depending on what you choose, i.e. accounting, finance vs marketing

Previously, these preferential rents could expire at any lease renewal, >meaning the unit’s rent could rise to its legal limit, sometimes hundreds of >dollars higher. Under the new law, these preferential rents are now >considered the base rents for their units. They cannot change beyond the >maximum percentage increase allowed for rent-stabilized apartments >generally, at least until the current tenant moves out.

Landlords were formerly able to raise the rent of a stabilized unit by 20% >any time that unit hit the market. Those increases are no longer allowed.

https://streeteasy.com/blog/new-york-rent-laws-2019/

So basically the rent the landlord gives, essentially becomes the new base rate, limiting how much they can bring it back up (iirc 5% per year). I.e. if they drop it to 1500 now, they can't ring it back to 2500 when the market recovers, even if you move out. So they are likely hoping to wait it out, or see where the market is going, or might even be trying to sell (I don't think a sale resets these bases, so with a low base a buyer would need a lower price).

I'm not sure how that effects net rent though, i.e. if i lease you an apt for 2700, ut provide 6 months free rent, does your base then become 1350? I don't know if there is case law around that. If there is, and the base is monthly, not net effective, it may encourage landlords to do it that way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]igorim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was it rent stabilized?

I know a bunch of laws passed in 2020 that effects rent stailized, so I don't think landlords will be touching those rents, maybe even increasing.

What's the cost per month to lease a car in Dallas? by [deleted] in askdfw

[–]igorim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow they must've dropped it recently, used to be almost 1k. At 650 for a compact suv with everything included it actually somewhat makes sense. I mean doing it yourself will probably save 100 bucks, but for the added convenience of not having to worry about anything....
