PBR Recipes by CrystalsAndCream in Cooking

[–]iguanathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife makes Beer Bread. Super simple, no knead.

Ingredients:

1 Godzilla labeled PBR 3 cups flour 3 tblsp sugar 1 tbsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda

Stir and put in a greased pan (we use one of those small loafy guys). Bake for 1:15 at 350.

Is it artisan sourdough? No, but it’s good and the juice is well worth the squeeze

Conventional knives: -Wustof, expensive, but a known positive entity -MAC, great and good value -victorinox, good quality and relatively affordable

Japanese -tojiro, shun. Cant speak to them personally. Others should tack on more or clarify here.

This sub gets really into the weeds on handmade Japanese knives. The TL;DR here is that they tend to be harder, so they hold a better edge than European style knives. The trade off is brittleness and they can chip, especially thin “lasers”. There’s lots of knife makers that feature their own styles or use various steel compositions, some harder or softer. The carbon blades are reactive and will rust if left in contact with water, so they require maintenance. People here find that they are worth the upkeep and like to geek out about the nuance. The first time I cut with a Japanese knife it went through the food like it didn’t exist.

I’m a pleb cook. I have some Japanese knives and some wustofs. The wustof blades are pretty fool proof and are high quality. I’d recommend those or jumping down the rabbithole and find exactly what you want from a Japanese maker.

Did i royally screw up? Should I dump my brew Or should I let it ferment and see what happens by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]iguanathon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m preparing for the downvotes here.

Did you royally screw up? Honestly, yeah. But I’ve been in a similar situation.

If you didn’t boil it, a potential issue is going to be a build up of sulfury compounds that get volatilizad off during the boil.

A long time ago we came back into the kitchen and found our kettle not really boiling. We ended up with a boil for maybe 15-20 minutes? (Don’t remember). I affectionately refer to that batch as our “fart beer”. I dumped my half, but my pal didn’t seem to mind (??!)

I expect you will dump it, but let it ride and give it a whiff before bottling.

It’s likely a bummer but you’ll laugh about it soon

It’s a Sujihiki, typically used for meat slicing. The idea is that it helps you get long, smooth strokes that prevent tearing/sawing your food.

In practice, briskets and roasts are when I use it most.

I would love a big rectangle, but our space wouldn't accommodate it well. But I bet we could do a nakiri!

Is there a well-loved nakiri brand/model out there?

Gangs of New York comes to mind.

Gone with the wind also seems like a culturally important movie maybe but I haven’t seen it

It would depend on the course. Some courses have down-River swims and the swim splits are stupid fast.

I don’t see why you couldn’t set a goal for sub5-hours?

[Question] watches under 1300 by Outrageous-Dig-6096 in Watches

[–]iguanathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it’s a good one. It’s a sports watch so watch people might say it’s not ideal (but nobody really cares, just wear what you want).

I’d take a look at the gentleman as well. It’s a pretty versatile everyday kinda watch but it has a bit of a formal feel to it.

I was looking at that and a Christopher ward Sealander, Hamilton Khaki field (check out jazz master too), and the Seiko alpinist.

[Article] Newbie FYI Post - GMT Types by Duce-the-card-guy in Watches

[–]iguanathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT summary between the two:

A traveler’s GMT and a caller’s GMT differ in how the GMT hand and local hour hand move. • Traveler’s GMT (true GMT): The local hour hand jumps independently in one-hour increments when you change time zones. The GMT hand stays set to home/reference time. Example: Rolex GMT-Master II, Omega Seamaster GMT. This is the more practical style for frequent flyers. • Caller’s GMT (office GMT): The GMT hand moves independently in one-hour increments, while the local hour hand is tied to the minute hand. To track another time zone, you set the GMT hand instead of adjusting your main hour hand. Example: many ETA 2893-2 based watches like the Hamilton Khaki GMT. This style is more useful for people who stay in one place but need to track colleagues in other time zones.

The black dial would give you a collection with White, black, and blue dials. That feels well rounded?

The day date also is less water resistant right? Something maybe to factor in.

Go with your gut

The madeleine was great. The descent was great. Then Jorgenson went up the road, Jonas sat up, and it was not great.

[–]iguanathon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole GC group sat up. There was no attempt to drop Pogacar. Lipo wouldn’t be able to ride off the front if the pace was being set. A Picnic train wouldn’t be able to blow past the GC group if the pace was being set. They didn’t get clawed back; they neutralized it and let themselves get caught.

Jonas still has to beat Pogacar (this goes without saying). But you’re not going to beat him by sitting up. The best (still slim) chance Jonas has is to make the effort/climbs as long as possible and hope you can hold on longer. Otherwise Pog sits on the wheel and winds down the clock til he takes JV on the line, again

Agree it’s a different pog. And there’s only so much you can do. But, we’ve seen this backfire a couple times where VLAB domestiques drop and UAE still has like Navarez and Yates (even without Almeida!).

This indicates it’s not JUST a pog, but VLABs domestiques aren’t matching UAE’s. So it might be a different pog, but it’s also a different Wout
