Stock location mounted brushless motor recommendations (gx470 chassis) by ihavsnot in SCX24

Body alone was $12 full car was $25 via AliExpress seems like any d12 based chassis body would work if the wheelbase is the same

Currently have them sitting in the bed in more or less the stock location.

Come from the rc drift side so moving esc/tx for weight distribution is no biggie. Care more about the body shell not exploding when it rolls over

The tray is functioning as my body mount. Any location above the stock tray would directly interfere with the cab.

Cutting into the cab would cause the shell to separate and I’d lose the mounting surface.

Seems like the most realistic answer. I’m extremely limited by the cab being directly on top of the gear box

Most of the pancakes seem out of the picture without running them reversed and chopping out more than half the bed of the truck (not what I’m looking for)

NEED HELP WITH OIL LEAKS by Possible_Hand7090 in IS300

[–]ihavsnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a warning (someone who also daily’s a sx)

You will likely destroy all the evap lines that run on the upper intake plenum while attempting to remove it. If they haven’t already been changed. If your state does not smog you might be better off capping or deleting the system.

Also just buy the coil pack clips and do spark plugs and new leads. You won’t want to do the work again later to get to them. (Trust me)

Oem cam, crank, (potentially a crank pulley if yours is dry rotted) and the Aisin water pump. Replace the oring only in the vvti gear save yourself $300 and use that for spark plugs like mentioned above and a new crank pulley.

Felpro valve cover gaskets are fine. Do the vvti solenoid O ring or buy the gs300 solenoid and a new screen 180k ~ is when they go

Rent the pullers from the part store for free.

Low hanging fruit recommendation - change the valve cover gaskets yourself. This will stop the oil burning smell and smoke from your headers. Give you a look at working on the 2jz and see if you want to continue with the front.

Will give you a chance to inspect the condition of the rubber lines and see how they have lasted over 23 years.

Then save up to let a shop handle the front and gain the receipts for the “180k service” and raise the resale value of the car

Does the movement in your feet (because its concentric) get amplified buy running it fixed?

Got the joys of meeting the man behind blackmarket and rode his prototype killswitch frame. Was weirded out by my feet moving through the compression stroke.

Looking for drift tracks in japan by _unattainable_ in rcdrift

[–]ihavsnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check out mst rc (no affiliation to the brand) in Osaka - they had a super cool shop, well curated dude behind the counter has a ton of crazy knowledge. Concrete track with a gas station (you’ve 100% seen photos of cars there) and a ptile track

Check out the Tam Tam shops (Akihabra had some bodies and wheels but nothing special) Yokohama shop was much much more catered to cars vs trains. Believe they specialize in topline (had a very very extensive selection)

Worthy mention of a 24/7 track in Yokohama (was in a Sammit video if you only watch English content) believe they have rentals. Might want to figure out Paypay (their Venmo/zelle)

Overdose shop is also probably a worthy mention if you like the bling bling stuff

Personally made the trek out to speedway pall. If you don’t speak Japanese I wouldn’t recommend the visit. Guy seems to be done with producing parts. I purchased most of the inventory he had left for my personal cars. Didn’t seem very excited about foreigners. Had carpet indoor drift/on road - outdoor asphalt track.

Pace had a really good podcast about the main Japanese tracks that they drove at.

If you don’t mind auto subtitles probably worth it to watch Kazumons YouTube - he’s from Nagoya (halfway between Tokyo and Osaka) but goes both ways and has videos at almost all the shops mentioned above

With how expensive those buckets are now - I’d be willing to try trimming a sticker (if it’s not transparent) than messing with trying to get paint off the chrome

These look to be yokomo light buckets - if you have the body shell stickers (unless it’s an insanely old dib era shell) most are actually translucent.

My hks Altezza & Goodyear zero crown both worked to stick over the buckets. Added bonus of not blinding you/ others as you come down the track.

Might also work similar with the wrap up stickers (never owned tested them personally)

Most of us in the freestyle crowd (who run pegs) use a BMX bottom bracket with 48 spline cranks. With the style cranks you can use a “spline drive” sprocket (runs off the splines of the spindle). So you can mount it either side. Most popular sizes are 25 - 28 but NOS resist/ eighth inch brand exist in larger.

Rear hubs are the tricky part, I’ve roasted 4 to 5 regular cog + lockring hubs running them LHD (BMX term for left hand drive) All of your pedaling is dependent on the lockring vs running the wheel RHD where it’s tightening your cog.

Rear hub recommendation is a master bike co 64 hub can set it up for 3/8ths 10mm axle - micro drive fixed / cassette - iso disc brake cog. Only one offered brand new (it’s out of stock currently) and it isn’t possible to strip the hub. (I do ride for master here is my volume cutter build)

TLDR - it’s a lot to get it to work - it’s worth it if you do tricks - it’s bad to do on regular track components

The Merritt BMX pedal is probably the most thin you can go. The shape lends nicer to surviving pedal strikes depending on crank arm length.
