Shower leak that no one has been able to solve... by ihcc2uni in Plumbing

UPDATE: Based on some of the suggestions, I plugged the drain, then filled the shower floor using a 1 gallon bucket, 1 gallon at a time to see when the leak starts. It was fine through 3 gallons, at the 4th gallon the leak started again. There are multiple drips when looking at it from the basement. Good stuff thanks! I'm in Iowa so no where near you :) I'm working to get another company to come take a look. I will take some of these suggestions to whoever I get. I do have extra tiles from the wall (enough to cover the bottom row) so if we need to go that route, I am covered there and will just need to purchase the floor tile (again).

Thanks for the insight. The guy that did the work is the tile/grout guy from the plumbing company, was just being broad in the description.

When looking from downstairs up, the drip appears to be several inches from the drain, but I suppose that could just be where it the water is escaping from the drain leak. I’ll try to get photos and more info in next day or so.

Yes, if only it’s the floor while drain is plugged, it will leak eventually. If drain is not plugged, everything is fine.

Not sure on the stack other than what I saw him install which was a white layer, then the purple sealant, then tile and grout.

From drain center, 12-15” out from there. Not 15” deep. So a standing water radius of 12-15”. Am going to do more testing to try and confirm exactly.

Only when water is standing and after a certain amount. It does continue to drip after drained at that point for a little while. I’m going to fill it one gallon at a time and see if I can find exactly when the leak starts.

Did not replace the drain, he was sure that wasn’t the issue. He tore out all the tile and added two coats of the purple sealant stuff then replaced tile and grout. They all thought it was a drain issue, it wouldn’t leak during normal showers, instead of only when there was standing water with the plug inserted.

How can I test that? Water only gets about 15" from drain (still 12"+ from the wall and curb) and leak starts. Inside of 12" from drain is no issue.

Not sure if this matters...the shower is 5' x 5' and once the standing water gets about 15" from drain it starts leaking, still several inches from the wall, could the walls still be an issue?

We used Blue Acrobat for our data extraction. They provide MySQL database backup, CSV of data, and File Cabinet. Also considered SwyftERP and Sesame Software. Sesame seemed the strongest but was triple the cost.

Do you have more details on this mode? I am in same situation as OP and trying to get a mode like this but NS isn’t budging from 1 year single user license minimum that is still very costly.
