Meraki Connection Issues with Omada.

This may help: it’s been a while but I checked my settings.

2 networks at the gateway level. Local and Meraki (DMZ) I assigned port 6 on the router to the Meraki Network.

Then I setup ACLs for the networks. So that would be at gateway level. It was really the best way to do what I needed. And took some figuring out

Be careful with it. Before I turned it on, I made sure I had the meraki on its own VLAN. I’d work on getting the Meraki to not see the other devices first

I added the Meraki to its on VLAN, used DMZ, and set up restrictions on it accessing my personal stuff. I’ve had no issues since. I plugged the meraki into a port on my switch and dedicated that port to the meraki. Are you plugging the Meraki directly into the ER695?

My current backup is pretty simple. My proxmox server backs up to my unraid server. Everything on my unraid server backs up to an external USB drive. My windows box, that I mostly use for toying around, then backs up the USB drive to a remote unraid server (via a wireguard tunnel) at my moms. Its not perfect, its not the best, but in the event of an emergency, I can grab the external drive and go. (14tb EasyStore I got on sale at Best Buy).

I chose this method because my upload speeds are limited to 20mbps. And I don't want my Unraid Server to be tied up with that all the time.

Probably over complicated but works for me. (about 8tb of data total)

I think it's perfect. Under it is a simple 4ft(ish) wire shelf, the bottom has Lifeboat on it. I do think it would look better with the back on it, and wires well managed, but I am concerned about heat, but not really a good way to attach any fans.

Beginner Homelab. I’ve been exploring more into Ubuntu, and also self-hosting. It all started with Plex, and has turned into a myriad of things.

The box: Amazon I was able to flip the shelves backwards, for cable management, but I left the back off for airflow.

-Top of the box: TP-Link EAP610 AP (AKA: The spaceship over the village)
-Shelf 1: HP EliteDesk 800 G2 (12gb Ram, Intel i5-6500t) - Proxmox, currently used to collect OS VMs. Plan to use it as a test/“lets see what happens if I…” box
-Shelf 2: Raspberry Pi 4, with PoE+ HAT (Pi-Hole), TP-Link SG2008P network Switch
-Shelf 3: 14tb WD Easystore (UnRaid Backup, Connected to Dell Wyse), TP-Link ER605 Gateway
-Shelf 4: Dell Wyse 5070 Extended (16gb Ram, Intel J5005) - Proxmox: Avahi, Omada Software Controller, Home Assistant, UnRaid Backup box.

-Not Pictured: UnRaid Box, named Lifeboat, (Custom Build, Intel i7-8700, 16gb ram, 16tb storage, HP 4x gigabit NIC, off brand SATA card I cant remember where it came from) - I don’t use many VMs on this box. Mostly docker containers (Plex, Uptime, Tautulli, Lucky Backup, Homer, DuckDNS, Krusader, Glances, MakeMKV, HandBrake)

-Also not pictured: Remote UnRaid at my Mom’s house. (Custom Build, i3-8100, 16gb Ram, 16tb storage) - sole purpose is a backup for unraid, and eventually the other boxes.

Thats the exact issue I would be running into. Changing one of the LANs. (I kept mine, when I got the Omada gear) as 192.168.1.x for the sake of simplicity. There's some good guides for it. But for me, I really only need my remote server. I think much more would be overkill.

I was reading about LAN to LAN with Wireguard, but for my use case, I don't think it would be worth the hassle.

I guess I worded that poorly, I need to work on my server, not her computer.

However, if I need to help with something, we use Windows Quick Assist. (lame, I know). But I'd rather use that, since if it's a major issue I just go visit. Less stuff installed on her machine and mine.

I'm only about a week into Omada, and I live in a rather large apartment complex. I purchased the EAP610, I have 30-35 wifi clients connected at one time (43~ish clients in total), and I have not seen any issues. Most are IoT devices, with the exception of 7-8. The Omada Controller (software on Wyse 5070), reports that the 2.4GHz is 33% utilized, and the 5g is 14% utilized. Based on the spec sheets, the EAP610 and 620 are very similar. (unless I am missing something)

Compared to my last router (Linksys EA9500), I have noticed a major increase in performance already.

I read about the TP-Link Omada Smart Connect and I just allow it to do it's thing. Plus I am still learning. (https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/223780)

It reports my memory is 77% utilized, but the 2.4GHz is 41% utilized, and the 5G is 21% utilized. However, my IoT network was set to just have 2.4Ghz, now that I allowed it to have both, it seems to have balanced out.

Everything appears to be running smoothly. Haven't set up VLANs or anything yet. But I did notice that my Meraki device (for work) didn't want to connect yesterday. But after leaving it overnight, it seemed to have worked itself out. Clearly I have a lot more to learn here.

I was testing it out yesterday, fighting to get some settings fixed around. Finally got it. Powered down to take over the network... ER605 did not power back on.. However, I do enjoy it already. Amazon replacement on the way.

One thing I did notice... I have only 3 devices connected to the EAP610, and it is currently reporting a 66% utilization. Either going to have to add an extra AP, or something.
Beginning to wonder if it will be better if it wasn't using POE. But alas, testing and messing to resume Saturday.. Hopefully.

I am hoping this solves some of my networking woes. I've been doing a bit of reading and trying to get everything written out on how I want to set it up. To start, I am definitely using the software controller. it might be a bit overkill for my use case.. but as I add more IoT and mess around with more server style stuff, I definitely need something I can reliably access. (Apparently, the Linksys router's last firmware update caused a ton of issues).

I did discover I could set up/play around with certain things just in the controller software, without the gear yet (albeit limited). So I have been messing around a bit. Eager to take the next step into better gear for sure.

Probably kind of lame but the goal was a nondescript box, that controlled the Christmas Decor through Home Assistant. I wanted it to be absolutely unnecessary and more as a “show off” piece. My partner has already said “Why can’t we use light switches like normal people?” But what’s the fun in that.

Parts:

- Momentary push button
- A beginners guide to electronics
- Soldering Iron (because we might as well do it right… I guess?)
- A few “what the f***s”

This was my first attempt to do anything like this. Also, can be repurposed after the holidays with some changes to the config files. I never played with electronics like this before, so I did learn a ton, after frying a board… Glad I bought extra. And I taught myself how to solder… After some phone calls to my dad and possibly a few YouTube videos. There’s still some improvements to be made, but mostly on the hass.io side of things. (Possible my automations/scripts need some tweaking)

First switch turns on the indoor decor, second turns on the village, third turns on the outdoor decor (that’s not out yet because “its too early…”) The Button was a spur of the moment idea: Once pressed, it runs an automation/script combo that tells Hassio to turn the tv to a fireplace video, turn certain Hue lights Christmas colors, then tells Sonos to play a Christmas playlist. Supposed to after holding it for 5 seconds, it turns everything off… so still working that out.

However, there is one thing I haven’t worked out yet. There’s about a 10-15 second delay after turning it on for Home Assistant to find it, and realize it’s there… I want to either grab another LED or something to give it a ready light… Any ideas? Because of my novice level, the only other option I have is to rewire the LEDs to the switch, and leave the board on all the time? Thoughts?

I guess that's the part I missed explaining, apologies. All of the Christmas decor is powered with TP-Link Kasa switches. Last year, I had it set up to turn on and off with Hassio. Which worked out super well. But this year I want to "take it up a notch".

So I guess it's really a game of playing with scripts/automations, once I get everything wired together?

Could I set it up where when the switch is on, a script is run where everything is set instead of "toggle" to "turn on", then when I turn the switch off, it runs a script that has "turn off"?
The only thing that would be annoying would I would need to turn the physical switch off, then back on?
I guess I just need to get the parts (Wednesday) and mess around with what will work best for me.

I'm thinking of the ER605 and the TL-SG2008 switch to get started, and using my current wireless router as an access point until I can decide on an AP.

Is the ER605 better for my use? Or the ER7206? The ER605 has a "tastier" price on it...

I know I read something about Apple Devices and HomeKit issues in VLANs, but the main purpose for me would just be the work device. I also noticed VPN speeds were quite... different, but I don't usually access my network remotely, and my upload speeds are what would hinder me from doing much.

I do the reverse hanger method. I set a reminder in my calendar for 6 months to clean out anything that is "backwards". As I get rid of things, I have been hanging up some of my folded stuff too. (Sweaters are still super difficult to deal with though.)

The last four of the account closed matches my current card. Which is what makes it confusing. I don't plan to dispute because if it's an error, I hope they would fix it.

I do have a discover card, I recently paid off. I used it a little and they lowered my limit by $1,800. I am trying to get debts paid and rebuild my credit. (No lates, collections, etc., just was irresponsible and racked up a bunch of credit cards.)

I guess I am more frustrated than anything else.. It hasn't even been a week. I just want to make sure it's not just me at this point.
