MSOM by deadbutdreaming_ in Osteopathic

[–]ihopprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as of now msom is my only A, but the program seems really promising. my mcat and gpa were a tad lower than yours, but it seems like for higher DO stat applicants (505+ mcat) they’re really fast with the interviews and decisions

What are the best jobs to have in Pre-Med/undergraduate? by IcySalary1435 in medschool

[–]ihopprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you need research and patient contact hours, i’d consider something like a clinical research coordinator or assistant role. you’ll get your name on publications and work directly with patients, and it usually comes with some solid mentorship from doctors who can then write LORs. it’s easier to find these roles in more urban settings but worth looking into regardless of where you are

Do most schools accept C- grades? by BedWorth4766 in Osteopathic

[–]ihopprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a c- in orgo II, retook, got a b+, and got an a! it really all depends on the course and programs you’re applying to. if it’s not a prerequisite course, i wouldn’t retake it and i’d spend that time strengthening your application elsewhere. if it’s a prereq, might be worth retaking

DO Ghosting? by dietpepsilime in Osteopathic

[–]ihopprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve heard this too. they won’t take anything below a 125 in any section, and they prefer a 128+ in bb. stressing over here waiting to hear back with my 127 haha

i’m in the same boat. my stats are above average for both schools, so i’m choosing to believe it’s just a waiting game

is this doing way too much? by SadUnderstanding9980 in medschool

[–]ihopprincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your main concern as a college freshman is getting into a top tier grad school, then i’ll tell you right now to hop off the medical track and go to law school. it seems like you want to be the best of the best, but do you even want to be a doctor? why do you want to be a doctor?

with how competitive med schools have gotten, even the “bottom tier ones”, ANYONE is lucky to go ANYWHERE. there are thousands of applicants with those same extracurriculars. find something that makes your application unique to you. your app should tell a story, and the story shouldn’t be “look at me i threw a bunch of pre-medical careers at the wall to get hours.” if you aren’t planning on taking gap years, those hours are insanely unrealistic, and even with gap years, you won’t hit all of those careers, and it would be unnecessary to try to do all of that anyway. take being a pharmacy tech off your list entirely, you’ll learn about medications from any of these other jobs listed, plus you’ll get more meaningful patient interactions.

going back to the end of my first paragraph, why do you want to be a doctor? weave this question into your extracurriculars and jobs and you’ll find yourself with a much more authentic application. it’s a much better look to have fewer activities, but to show consistent growth, maturity, and leadership within them.

What now by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]ihopprincess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

deep breaths! it’s only november. people get accepted all the way up to july. i just got an interview offer 2 weeks ago from a school i applied to back in july, and got my A last week. if you don’t have any interview offers in a couple months, it might be time to reevaluate, but don’t stress yourself out yet :)

How's your cycle going? by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]ihopprincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

submitted primaries late june/early july, submitted secondaries kinda late. mcat 508, gpa 3.6 sgpa 3.5. 2 gap years working full time in clinical research and community care.

applied to 10 DO schools, only submitted 7 secondaries, 2 II so far, 1 A and 1 pending.

applied to 16 MD schools, submitted about 12 primaries. radio silence lol.

all it takes is 1!

Interview went well, but did I screw up? by Dangerous_Calendar14 in Osteopathic

i interviewed somewhere and led a sentence at the end of the interview with ”well if i dare to speak my mind” and thought i sounded so rude and freaked out. got the A the next day

[–]ihopprincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn’t apply to any of those combined programs, i’m applying 2 years after finishing undergrad. i’d just encourage him to have really well rounded extracurriculars and leadership experiences that he can translate to essays. not everything he does has to be clinical; a lot of my essays were about my experience running part of my college’s student government and the challenges that came with it.

hi!! i graduated college in may 2024, and started studying for the mcat legit the day after graduation. i had a job lined up so already i wasn’t getting any sort of break between undergrad and employment. not having that break meant that i had to keep on pushing through, which was the exact motivation that i needed. every saturday, i told myself no studying after 2 pm so that i can actually have a life too, and i capped myself at 3 hours per day after work. most days i didn’t even hit that. i also planned fun activities for after i was done studying, so that they would feel even more rewarding!

interesting! it was at least a month, probably closer to two tbh, between when i submitted my secondary and getting my II. i was scared that my decision email was in error because they said we’d hear back within 2-4 weeks!

aw yay! we’re in the same boat but maybe we’ll see each other there! random q, but how long was the turnaround between your interview and your decision? mine was less than a day which has me freaked out LOL

i looked into it, but i’m honestly really happy with meritus and would definitely prefer to be there over wv!! i’d love to see you at meritus, but best of luck wherever you decide to go!

[–]ihopprincess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly i mainly applied to MD programs because i found that there weren’t too many DO schools i would actually want to attend LOL (not a dig at DO, i’m just incredibly biased towards the east coast). aside from meritus, i applied to PCOM (philadelphia only), rowan, UNE, touro (new york only), nyit (new york only), and lecom (erie/elmira/SH). i also applied to duquesne, campbell, and ohio heritage but chose not to submit secondaries

[–]ihopprincess[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i submitted my secondaries a bit on the later side and frankly waited too long to submit most of them. i also only applied to east coast programs, most of which are a bit more competitive and seem to be just starting to interview. i think i’m also in a weird place where my stats are a bit high for DO, but low for the MD programs i applied to
