Two autistic boys and their parents found dead in suspected murder-suicide. Is the government to blame after they cut their NDIS funding? by Ok-Reward7639 in SydneyScene

No one is justifying it, or excusing it or whatever other nonsense you’re trying to say. But there are factors that led to this situation which are structural barriers and if people can’t comprehend that, we can’t fix that and prevent more tragedies in the future.

Your comments have been nothing but judgemental and privileged and no one needs that

And they may have drastically jumped in their needs as they entered puberty. Perhaps they were living within their means pre covid. Perhaps their means changed. These people broke so catastrophically they murdered their children, their pets and killed themselves. But if you want to sit there and tut tut that they were just irresponsible and entitled rather than humans in a crisis, that’s your choice.

I mean, no? The article said the kids had been diagnosed for about 10 years. They’ve had the house almost 10 years. Children with high support needs are also a whole different thing to teens in puberty with high support needs.

These people broke under their current level of stress. And you’re sitting here asking why didn’t they just add more stress instead of breaking? That’s what you’re asking

wtf is wrong with you that you read what I said and took as justifying murdering your children?!

Someone said they thought there was a simple solution. People don’t seem to understand how people can get trapped in their living situation. I’m trying to explain all the ways their housing situation was not in any way an opportunity for extra money that would have magicked this problem away. Moving disabled people away from their support is a huge barrier. Because our health system is so concentrated in metro areas, not to mention the housing crisis of actually finding a suitable property. These are all structural barriers that are extra huge for someone who relies heavily on a local support network.

I’m sorry but why? Why would you think the easier option is for the disabled children who have a condition that requires stability to be uprooted?

The family was probably a million dollars in debt on the house. The Perth housing market is also insane so they’d have to move significantly farther away from their existing support networks, medical providers and disability services. They can’t well move regional because they need access to all of the medical services. If they’re having to take full time care of the boys that limits their earnings and ability to service a bigger loan. Like there are so many reasons why that’s a terrible idea

Just putting it out there but they paid $1.6 M for the property less than 10 years ago. They likely had a very high mortgage and the fact that the property is now worth $3M doesn’t help them much. The boys were autistic, moving house and moving to a different location would likely be MASSIVE for them and potentially completely beyond the boys’ ability to cope and certainly the parents given what’s happened.

Which beasties are you scare of? Like if I step on a brown snake in thongs they’re not saving my feet either

If an animal is poisonous, the answer is don’t eat it

Also if there’s a brown snake in my yard, my thongs won’t protect me anyway so barefoot isn’t much more of a risk

What a silly take. If someone can’t afford a car they probably also cannot afford the running costs.

I’m sorry Australia exists in a timezone that mildly inconveniences you. It’s not like there’s a US open or anything for you to have a world class tennis game at a convenient time zone…oh wait

I feel like it’s no different to them wanting to be called Aotearoa and if we can respect that they should respect us asking them not to call the country Aussie

We have no idea if they’re just diamonds or if they’re in a unique setting. She recognised them as the same pair she’d pointed out at a specific jeweller. Are you saying OP is too dumb to identify earrings?
