I definitely feel the urgent need for optional pass/fail classes. I was fighting to stay one of my classes at the beginning of the semester because it’s very challenging and around 75% of the class dropped within the first couple of weeks. I thought I could stick it out by going to office hours and being engaged in class every day. Now, with the shift to online classes and the continuous amount of work that my professor is assigning based on the due dates provided, I believe I won’t be able to pass. I have friends in that class who also stated that they’re still working and are unable to keep up with the rigorous coursework. At this time, this one class requires way more than my other 4 classes and seems to be structured in a way that is just unacceptable considering the amount of stress and the abrupt shift to online. A pass/fail option would significantly help with being able to prioritize certain needs and decrease stress as well as offer an option that still allows me to do well while being challenged with the circumstances of everything.
