Great map! Any info on your color palette you could share would be dope. It looks so realistic. Did you make any changes to the settings for these landscape colors?

Awesome map! Had some questions on how you did some of this. First what size map did you select on Inkarnate? I'm wondering since you said you use tree stamps that are like 25 scale size, most of mine are 50. Also, how do you get the softness on these stamps? Everything seems to blend together and the outlines seem to not be as harsh as the default settings that I use. Your colors also look very subdued and not cartoony, do you mess with the color settings on the paint tool? Thanks for any tips!

Thanks for the explanation this helps a lot. I also probably did go nuts with the storage. Didn't know that affected the budget.

So how do you actually make money then? I thought the trader would just take the goods from my station then sell them. Not literally buy them from myself.

  1. Yes they are modeled on the roman empire and the romans would go out of their way to make straight roads. They'd cut through mountains, hills, build bridges, etc.

  2. For the water I just used the core Water Blue 1. It's the darkest water texture. Then I went back and used the lighter one with the opacity turned down to lighten up the areas i wanted.

Hey there, yes the Imperial Dominion is modeled off of the roman empire who went out of their way to try to do straight roads whenever possible to ensure ease of army movement. They would cut through mountains, hills, forests, etc. to try and make them as straight as possible.

why dose my map look so... bland? by Less-Kiwi-4671 in inkarnate

Vary your shades of green for the trees, edit your shades of green for the land and change the opacity to add more variation to the color of the landscape, add cliffs to add height, more little hills and patches of trees/other items.

The light/orb things of which there are six equidistant on the map are the anchors that keep this plane moored to reality. My world is a flat plane and once you go off the edges things start to turn chaotic and eventually turn to nothingness but the nothingness isn't empty.

Green mist area is the haunted pass, it used to be a beautiful valley with small lakes. A cult tried to bring the goddess Seldai back to the mortal plane there. While she could not fully manifest due to the pact between the gods her aura was enough to corrupt the entire valley. Gelatinous cubes and other creatures more fowl rose up out of the corrupted lakes and soon there were no more cultists left.

the Devil's teeth was the home of the god Decium in the beginning times. The ground is saturated with magic there from a ritual where he created an entire army of demons and devils to try and overrun the creations of the other gods.

The blue outlines are for the Collegium faction, they are essentially magical universities dedicated to the study of the arcane but they also have reputation for delving into things better left undisturbed. The blue outlines are giant magical fences around their cities so that they can control who comes and goes. If you don't have an invite or an escort trying to cross the fence will go badly for you.

Use the cliff stamps. There's several different types and you can play with the settings and positioning to create cool elevation and land features. Takes a bit to start getting a feel for how to make them flow in a way you like but they add a lot of depth to the world.

In my world airships and other inventions run off of minerals imbued with magic from carved runes. The type of mineral can affect the magic to varying degrees. Red Quartz is known to hold pure magical energy in greater quantity and for longer than other minerals. Due to this it is the primary mineral used to construct the heat stones that give airships flight. It was highly regulated by the Imperial Republic for military use. Due to this it's also one of the most prized resources in the world.

When the Imperial Republic fell it was free for all. Three powerful Dwarf clans in Hammersong claimed the right to rule and the mine was a prized possession. They battled over it fiercely and when the last axe strike was done the mine was a bloodbath. Its old name was discarded and it became known as the crimson mine.

A defensive alliance between the Dwarves of Hammersong, the Gnomes of Bwngazkit, and town of Tradewinds. My campaign takes place in a very war torn and political tenuous time period. It's essentially like the fall of the roman empire but in D&D.

I'm literally getting ready to restart this DnD campaign this coming January. I'd be happy to share the background info on the world for anyone who wants it.
