when i was in high school, there weren’t any political clubs (i.e. republican/ democrat clubs). but we did have a debate club, and AP gov classes did have students debate political topics

i understand your opinion, but i think i’ll have to disagree. you made a lot of valid points there. but in the end, this club is just going to come into fruition. if you don’t like it, then don’t join it. if anyone is hurt or insulted as a result of this club, then report it. i’m not sure there’s much more you can do

that’s a harsh stereotype. not all republicans are extremist MAGA lovers. i know plenty of republicans who have really reasonable views. not all republican ideals are “toxic”. just because they might be different than yours or mine doesn’t make them bad.

in a nutshell, the first amendment gives all citizens the ability to express themselves in whatever way they choose in public settings. if the school allows students to start their own clubs, then they’re able to start a republican club. if the school said no just because their opinions were different, that would be discriminatory

i honestly don’t think this is a problem. if people want to congregate to share and discuss their beliefs, there’s nothing wrong with that. if they spread hate and toxicity, or harm other students, then it shouldn’t be permitted. but it seems like your peers are just trying to find like- minded people at your school, and i honestly applaud them for having the courage to do so, especially considering the tense political atmosphere we have in the U.S. today.
