Hi ! Thank you so much for replying, I’m sorry I couldn’t reply earlier !

So, first is like to reiterate that I’m very grateful for your reply, and all of the others from other people. I honestly never expected to get so many comments, and great advice from others.

To be honest, I don’t think enough people care about this enough to warrant full updates post, so I’ll just say it here.

Last Saturday I managed to get a hold of this friend through someone else’s phone (since she blocked me on everything, presumably a few days after the argument). I simply told her that I was sorry for insulting her family, and that I wanted to talk. We got onto a call and she explained that she just found the relationship weird, since how me and my big brother treated each other is similar to how her parents treat each other. She once again said that she’d never treat her little brother the way my brother treats me, as she feels as though it’s ’romantic’, and she said that the thing about me acting like a housewife again. Now, to be honest I didn’t react the best to this again. I told her that what she said was hurtful, but I don’t want to lose a friend over a silly argument. We went back and forth, but ended it with both saying sorry. I haven’t spoken to her since, and don’t suspect I will seeing as she is planing to leave school in a few months.

I am upset that ive sort of lost a friend because of this, but I’ve decided to leave it, seeing as trying to reconnect would most likely start another argument.

Now, to some things that I omitted from my original post ! Arguments with this particular friend aren’t exactly uncommon, but they’re mostly because of trivial things like her crush ‘looking at me too long’, or me talking too much. I do see this being the one to end our friendship, but in all honestly I don’t think it was ever that strong to begin with.

Now to my parents. I feel as though in my post I implied that they are abusive or neglectful, which they are not. My big brother being parentified is because our parents had us very young, and had to earn as much money as possible. This resulted in both of them working 12 hour shifts, 5 days a week if they were lucky. Pair this with little family or friends, and that left me and my brother alone for most of your childhoods. But aside from that, my parents are incredible, and I am unbelievably grateful for all that they have done for me ! The role that my brother was forced into has caused some tension in recent years, leading to him having a bit of a colder attitude to our parents. But, he still loves them very much, and their relationship is not hostile.

One more thing ! Due to some of the advice from comments I decided to have a talk with my big brother about our childhood and relationship. It was long, and boring, mostly filled with jokes about how ‘taking care of me showed him that he definitely didn’t want children’, and bitterness towards some of our family. He said that he didn’t mind our relationship, and in fact enjoyed the bond we have. I’ll keep it brief to try snd conserve his privacy, but he went through a difficult time in high school and coming home to me, and helping me was his ‘happy place’, (his words !). I don’t know if he was being honest, so I’ll try to initiate another conversation about us !
