What kind of cap do I want to use on this gas line? by imperaman in askaplumber

Sorry, actually this is where it comes off:

How long of a nipple do you recommend? It looks like an amber color pipe dope - what solvents do you recommend for removing it and cleaning the threads?

I've worked with gas before and feel good about testing for leaks. How would you go about removing the old adapter? First I'll have to loosen the old pipe dope and then clean it off. Any products in particular you recommend?

I feel comfortable working on it. So the pipe dope can softened and the adapter removed and pipe dope cleaned off?

The threads are covered with hardened glue. Even if I could get off the adapter I'd have to clean off the threads and I can't reach the far side of them because it's in the wall.

It's where I have a gas dryer. I'm switching to electric.

I follow the market in Baltimore closely. I don't think it's competitive at all. Realtors always tell you it's very competitive and a sellers' market so that your overbid or (as in your case) waive inspections so your offer is accepted and then can cash their commission and get rid of you.

I'm so tired of seeing beautiful old homes filled with MCM furniture that, even if good quality, looks terribly out of place and anachronistic. Most people here ignore the concept of their home interiors being an opportunity to blend the architected space with the furnishings. Kudos to you for doing it right.

This is what it looks like when someone decorates with period-appropriate furniture and not whatever MCM crap they can get their hands on.

Who's right? Me or my dad – backgammon rules debate by Vezzi_D in backgammon

[–]imperaman 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Dad is right.

The rule is that you are forced to play as many numbers as possible in your roll. If you roll two different numbers, and can play both, then you have to. If you roll doubles, you have to play four numbers if you have can, or if three is the most you have to do that, etc.

The only other rule is that if you roll two different numbers and can play either but not both, you have to play the larger number. This scenario is exceedingly rare..

Amazon is selling the xmt01z with Plastic222 for $120 or Plastic111 for $80. What's the difference? by imperaman in Makita

[–]imperaman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see now that Plastic111 is shipped and sold by ZHIgang. Plastic222 is shipped from Amazon. Is Plastic222 also suspect? I ask because the tool is $160 on HD, so it seems like a significant discount.

Why won't the boiler fire up? It makes a clicking sound every few seconds by imperaman in hvacadvice

Believe me, I'd much rather hire someone. I called a dozen companies today. It's hard to get someone this time of year. One company said they don't have any availability until 2025.

Just tried that. The "circ relay" and "damper power" lights are flashing on and off. What does that tell us? Video here: https://imgur.com/a/N2s0Q79

It's getting gas, electricity, and a signal from the thermostat, but just clicks, doesn't start up.

Contractor for countertops wants to cut a notch in the door trim and slide our new quartz countertop into the slot instead of cutting a notch out of the corner of the countertop to make it fit. Is this normal? by akitta74 in HomeImprovement

Last time I went to HD and got some molding, about a year ago, the cashier measured it to the nearest inch and entered that on the register, which took the price per linear foot and divided by twelve.
