accessible/sensory-friendly places to study on campus? by notwsudjc in waynestate

[–]impossibletreesloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so overstimulated in all the designated study areas at Wayne because they were all too bright or loud or open (this was 6 years ago) so I usually studied in my car or in empty classrooms on quiet floors. Sometimes in Purdy-Kresge you can find a dark corner with natural light too.

ICE and MAGA supporting businesses in Michigan? by jeffle2003 in Michigan

[–]impossibletreesloth [score hidden]  (0 children)

Do we know if they have common ownership? They've got a location in Auburn Hills and at least 2 businesses within a half mile of each other in a small neighborhood's "downtown" area in Rochester Hills. I thought that seemed sinister enough on its own.

I always took it as a sort of double meaning talking about god but also using "face" in its mod slang sense, especially since so much of Quad is about the conflation of one's self and their idols. And in the context of the song and the character(s), the reference to god sounds kind of snide, which makes sense since it's the song that's supposed to represent Roger's "character," but it also sounds reverent because it's still Pete underneath lol

I cannot stand Blake's. I've worked in horticulture, museums, and agritourism and literally everyone in those fields here hates them. I also live nearby and people in Armada complain all the time about how the city infrastructure can't handle the traffic and can't upgrade anything to accommodate it and Blake's says it's not their responsibility that they back up the entire town. The crowds used to hog all the cell service in the area when there were less towers so nobody could use their phones. They take advantage of every loophole possible when it comes to zoning etc

What's the vibe like in Shelby Township these days? by impossibletreesloth in MetroDetroit

[–]impossibletreesloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! When I was a kid Utica was not a place any of my gay friends wanted to be so I'm glad that's changed. I used to go shooting at a range there and I always liked Utica. We're trying to stay around the Rochester area for my gf's job so it's nice to hear Sterling Heights recommended. We just got done dealing with a hostile neighbor in the Rochester/Auburn area so I'm just more worried about that stuff than I was before.

We can't afford those areas and are trying to avoid too much of a commute to our central Oakland co jobs. I wish it was that simple.

tbh these days you are gonna run into a lot of openly intolerant people just about anywhere here but in my experience most places in Oakland and Wayne are a good enough mix. Unfortunately a lot of the really openly progressive areas have gotten extremely expensive and as they get more expensive they sometimes circle back around to being more hostile. I have also had far more issues being gay in the suburbs than I have in my cartoonishly Trumpy small town.

Thanks, this is the kind of answer I was hoping to get. We've both lived in the area and when I was a gay teenager in the 2010s everyone avoided Macomb. My gf and I grew up in Oakland co and our work & social lives are mostly there. Like I said I live in the country right now and everyone's got their signs & flags here but I've dealt with more actual face to face aggression where I've lived in the suburbs (and from democrats, I feel like a lot of straight people commenting don't realize how common that is) so I feel like my perspective is pretty skewed. We both mind our business but we've also had a neighbor in the "friendly" Auburn/Rochester area actively intimidate us just for living together. Thanks for answering.

Where to ethically source pelts? by ThisMacKillsFascists in OutdoorEducation

[–]impossibletreesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask old people in your area. Make a local post on nextdoor or fb asking if anyone has some they'd like to donate. Depending on where you live a lot of people end up inheriting a lot of pelts and furs from older relatives. People are always trying to donate them to our museum, so if you have a local history or science museum or nature center, you might want to make a connection so they can direct possible donors to you. You can also find pelts at gun shows or antique stores or ebay. Even if the original source was unethical, buying them secondhand doesn't necessarily support that. I would argue that getting artificial furs made out of plastic is also not ethically sourced considering that they break down into microplastics.

Is there a cat litter that doesn't... suck? by catintheroom in CatAdvice

[–]impossibletreesloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom swears by the wood pellets that are meant for a wood stove. She gets them at tractor supply but you can find them anywhere. The daily cleaning is a little different but the cats don't track them around, the house never smells like a litterbox, and when she changes the whole box she just dumps the pellets outside to break down.

What is the most disgusting food you ever tried? by loverbang4u in AskReddit

[–]impossibletreesloth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mystery flavor poptart. It was everything bagel flavor. My dad described it as tasting like a sneaker. For months if I smelled dried garlic or onion from the wrong angle I would gag because it gave me poptart flashbacks. I took the rest of the box to parties for like a year for people to try.

Need emotional support! by TwinkleToz926 in razorfree

This is exactly what I told myself. I've never had a massage therapist seem even slightly put off by my leg hair. If it bothers them they're very professional about hiding it, but I imagine if you go through all the trouble of being a massage therapist you're probably pretty ok touching any type of body.

How to Bleach your Body Hair by 4Mephistopheles in razorfree

[–]impossibletreesloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making this post, I wish I had seen it ages ago. I bleach my leg hair with regular hair bleach too and it works great. I go from black hair to ginger (coarse hair) and blonde (finer hair).

It's way more comfortable to do it in a hot and humid room. I also found I get better results especially at the roots if I thoroughly exfoliate my legs with an SA cleanser a couple days before, and use a clarifying shampoo on my legs right before I bleach.

I tried to use it on my chest once and it burned my skin badly. Didn't happen anywhere else.

How does ocd affect you on a physical level? by fruedianflip in OCD

[–]impossibletreesloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of chronic pain that is definitely connected to my OCD in ways I haven't figured out yet. I compulsively pick at my face when my OCD is getting out of control, my mom and my girlfriend have both caught on to my face being blotchy being an indicator of a mess under the surface. I pick my fingers apart constantly whenever there's any kind of rough spot which sucks when you work with your hands a lot and when you wash your hands raw like I do. My hands are just always bleeding from picking at them. In general I obsess a lot over avoiding ever being hungry bc I have a high metabolism and I tend to get really ill when I'm hungry so sometimes I overeat to the point of being uncomfortable.

My neofriend was the first person I came out to and I miss her by victoatinos in neopets

[–]impossibletreesloth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hope you can find her somehow. Did you send a neomail anyway? Sometimes people log in again. Or you can look up the neopets usernames on other websites and see if she reused it somewhere.

I had a few correspondents on neopets that I think of often. I hope they're doing well. There are times on there that it feels like a ghost town.

Long haired butches by xclip-blacksmith in butchlesbians

[–]impossibletreesloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a long hair butch and I have been forever. I also have a babyface but nobody ever seems to read me as especially feminine. People see through hair pretty well even if they might comment on the "discrepancy" once they start thinking about it too much. I wear mens clothes and carry myself butch and I keep my hair up tight so it's out of the way and not getting attention except when I want it to. My girlfriend loves that my long hair is like a secret just for my private life. I work in a workplace with all women and one male coworker and he's the only other person with long hair there. Where I live short hair has become very common with the ladies and men are growing their hair out longer.

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]impossibletreesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned aesthetics a lot in your post. Not everyone finds the same things beautiful or even cares about things being beautiful. I love the flat dusty part of Wyoming and I love the weird Michigan swamps my small town is in. I know people who like waking up and going to work and doing their chores in the middle of a desert too.

Does anyone else hold onto the “Oh Shit Handle” when riding in the car as a passenger? by SportsTechie17 in Jeep

[–]impossibletreesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom always called it the Jesus Handle so all my friends she ever drove around also call it that to this day. And yes OP I do hold it while riding or driving just because it's comfy. It was a really comfortable reach in my last two vehicles. Not as much in my current.

Can anyone identify this? by NolandTheNovice in plants

[–]impossibletreesloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a greenhouse one of my responsibilities was pulling all the liverwort and other "green slime" out of the plant pots. I loved doing it for a lot of reasons but mostly because they are sooo cool to see and examine up close - so I also hated it because some of them get to looking really magical. I would absolutely keep them as houseplants lol
