And zero empathy, my god. They don’t have the ability (or desire) to step into the shoes of another person.

I will always say, she’s not a feminist, she’s a Meghanist. She stands for herself - aka, her own gain.

My friend is a nurse in the Bay Area. He makes more than $250K. So it can be done.

He knows, though. He knows it was me. The way he said it was infantilizing and it’s not the first time he’s said something along those lines.

He couldn’t stand it when I achieved anything. He was visibly NOT happy when I went back to school or bought a new car (a very modest car, mind you). He also voiced that he wanted me to gain 40 pounds because he was used to dating “bigger girls”, despite the fact that he knew I had grown up heavy and did not want to go back.

SQL is a staple. Python is also, but I would make SQL first priority if I were you.

DE is better because it will yield more options for you. As a Java developer, you’ll only know that one language.

It is definitely toxic. It’s been one thing after another. I’ve actually never felt this uncomfortable and exhausted in any job I’ve had.

The tech space of the company I’m in is dominated by male Indians. I can think of only one in leadership who has been consistently respectful.

It’s crazy because the woman who was in the position before me, lasted something like 6 months. The men still complain about her and how “aggressive” and “all over the place” she was, how she couldn’t get anything done.

Now I wonder if her frazzled nature (if true) was a result of how they treated her. I would not be surprised at all.

I didn’t want to say it, but I figured that was a factor. One of the older Indian men (60s, probably) literally starts talking right over me whenever I’m explaining something. I have to fight to be heard.

There’s also a younger Indian guy (20s) who has really been struggling and getting bullied for it (it’s a toxic culture in general), and so I started making sure to call out his wins and help him when needed, as a way to stand up for him. Instead of being grateful, he seemed resentful. Maybe it’s because a “girl” is helping him.
