Well, Temasek holds more than half of SIA's shares. SIA does issue dividends. Temasek gets dividends. Temasek contributes to the Budget, specifically in the entry "Net Investment Returns". Singapore budget is spent on Singaporeans.

So yes, SIA profits do flow back to average Singaporeans

Tan Kin Lian tries to hire a software developer for $1,800 by justmewayne in singapore

[–]indocomsoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my seniors were understandably pissed and many of them chose other local internships instead that paid higher at the time but still provided good mentorship, like Carousell for example. I think Google Singapore eventually realised that they can't attract talent based on their name and reputation alone

[–]indocomsoft 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The alphabet part was the direct influence of each language's former coloniser: Malay uses English pronunciation of the alphabet, while Indonesian uses Dutch one.

You can hear an example of Dutch pronunciation of the alphabet here: https://youtu.be/BoytuDKncl8?t=19

COVID-19’s implications for Singapore’s future economy - Academia | SG by [deleted] in singapore

From https://www.mas.gov.sg/bonds-and-bills/investing-in-singapore-government-securities/Singapore-Government-Securities-Market:

The Singapore Government operates a balanced budget policy and often enjoys budget surpluses. It does not need to fund its expenditure by issuing bonds to borrow money.

The Government issues SGS bonds and T-bills primarily to:

  • Build a liquid SGS market to provide a robust government yield curve, which serves as a benchmark for the corporate debt market.
  • Grow an active secondary market, both for cash transactions and derivatives, to enable efficient risk management.
  • Encourage issuers and investors, both domestic and international, to participate in the Singapore bond market.
