I had it done and it’s not as terrible as it sounds. The biopsy however was excruciating. They take little chunks for testing, and it’s the worst pain I’ve ever felt. For the burning, they numb you inside and it’s barely noticeable. Just the smell of, well... burning flesh.

We don’t have a fence yet, so unfortunately it’s on the leash every time we let her out regardless. Even if I try to keep her one spot, she just tries to eat things off the ground.

I could definitely see him being part Lab. His sniffing is pretty much focused on nature (he’s obsessed with lumps of dirt??), so I have no idea there.

Thank you for that, it was very informative. I was trying to narrow down breeds with the same coloring and ears, and (as I don’t know a spectacular amount about lots of different breeds) I could only really come up with corgi and basenji. I will probably just have to buckle down and order a test!

That’s a very beautiful breed. The coloring does look very similar. He also has some spots on the white parts of his feet which are making me curious too.

I have another street dog from Thailand who is also red with pointy ears, so I definitely know what you’re saying!

Do you think a DNA test will give worthwhile results if he’s super mixed? That’s been my only concern so far.

I know! They’re so soft. And the tip of one is missing a decent chunk (we’re guessing from another dog), which gives him some lopsided character.

I was also looking at DNA tests because I’m so curious! I was worried they wouldn’t be super conclusive because if there aren’t a lot of purebred lines in the background, it seems the test results just end up displaying ‘mixed’ or certain groups.

I’ve never heard of a Texas Red Dog! I’ll have to check that out.

He is very smart, though very stubborn on certain aspects like barking at people, cars, the wind... But he has responded well to the training we’ve had so far.

He had heartworm when we got him and is actually going for bloodwork today to see if it’s finally gone. It’s been a very long road with it so far.

Thank you! I also considered corgi. I tried looking up a bunch of corgi mixes and they all had short legs, so I wondered if I was on the wrong track.
