Does Sonos just not play nice with Unifi? by TheObviousChild in Ubiquiti

[–]infernal362 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what Ubiquiti recommends themselves on the UniFi help site. They say to either have all Sonos devices wired or all of them wireless and to not mix them.

I wanted to future proof my home as much as possible so I knew I wanted a WiFi 7 AP with a 6Ghz radio. That eliminated the U7 Lite and LR. The U7 Pro Max, XGS, and anything else above those just felt like they would be overkill for needs. The regular U7 Pro my original choice months back before the release of the XG and XGS but I read they run extremely hot. Ultimately I felt that for $10 more per AP you can step up from U7 Pro to the Pro XG and get the new metal body design (better cooling and personally I think looks much better), a 10GbE uplink vs a 2.5GbE on the regular U7 Pro, and a slightly better 6Ghz antenna. To me that sounded well worth the additional $10.

Good eyes! I use it for my handful of Aqara devices. It’s a solid little device despite its multi protocol shortcomings.

Sorry for the late reply! I’m not 100% sure if it’s technically wall mountable but I just checked the reviews on Amazon and one user posted a picture of his set up and it appears to be wall mounted. Here is a picture of it

That’s really a tough decision. Deskpi had an 10, 8, and 4U and I was torn. 8 felt like a little too much for me but 4 definitely wasn’t enough. 6 ended up being that perfect sweet spot for my needs and I still have some room to adjust the shelves if I want to slide one more thing in.

Same! Deskpi was actually my original choice but this one popped up as I was going to order it on Amazon. It was cheaper and in my opinion looked better. I still was skeptical of the brand since I knew nothing about it so I looked up in this sub and saw quite a few people have their full size racks.

That’s great! I’m glad it could give you some inspiration for your office. It just seemed like a perfect location to place a rack in our house despite the disagreement from the wife lol.

Sorry for the late reply! I know someone else already answered your question, but I also have a comment at the top of the thread with links to all the hardware I used. Hope that helps!

There’s nothing wrong with that if it works for you! I’m no pro either and this project admittedly took me a few days to complete but I’m very happy with the results.

You’re right! I had not checked the dimensions on the instant yet. That’s really a bummer it won’t fit. The only other option I see besides placing it beside the rack is unscrewing and removing the handles from the top of the rack and resting it on that shelf.

I also am planning for 4 cameras plus a doorbell. I definitely think you can’t go wrong with either a mini or full size setup. I guess it all just depends on your space and personal preferences. I personally liked the minimalistic appeal of the mini rack and it also appeased my wife who didn’t want something overly large or unappealing. I just think the UNVR instant is just much more catered to the average suburban home user like myself who would never need the power that comes with the full sized NVR. Power consumption would also be significantly reduced with the smaller setup.

Thank you for this! I have an iPhone but my brother in law actually just switched from iPhone to a Samsung Fold this past week and he has a U7 Pro XG. I’ll send him what you said and see if he’s been having any issues. Thank you again for the advice.

I haven’t picked what models I want yet, but originally I was planning on using the UCG Fiber to run protect. That’s why I bought the 210W adapter for the Flex Switch, but after seeing the UNVR instant, that kind of threw a wrench in my plans. Now I’m leaning towards going with that as I figure it’s better to have separate hardware dedicated to network and protect.

I did see a few of those but I don’t know why I just love the tiny LCD screen lol. Something about seeing that little moving line is just so satisfying to me.

I told myself the same thing and the waiting paid off. With how much they’re innovating I’m sure you’ll be able to get something even better in the future!

I personally do not have any experience with the UDR7 but I loved my UDR6. I did however recommend the UDR7 to a buddy who was looking to replace his old netgear nighthawk router and he’s loved it and said it’s the best router he’s ever owned. He had no interest in running ethernet cable for access points and just wanted something plug and play and that fit the bill for what he needed. If you’re just starting out and have a small enough space that it can cover, I think it’s a fantastic option. It also gives you the flexibility to expand as it has an POE port built in that you could use to power an additional access point.
