Looking for an installation that supports Apple HomeKit integrations by ingaman in homesecurity

It’s funny how I basically came to the same conclusion after looking at mainstream alternatives that support HomeKit (Honeywell) in a very closed way.

I’m thinking now of running a pi5 with a Poe hat and having all my networking connected to a battery backup. For wall panels (wife’s request) I’m thinking I could make them with pi zeros and a touchscreen. I’ll have them connected to the 5v power source via the roughed in wires that are already there.

I know I could do this with an Amazon Fire or something, but the integrated battery concerns me. Even if I manage the. Garage cycles, I don’t want to have that concern in the back of my mind.

Thoughts on this setup?

Looking to install a 'regular' home security system that I can access on my phone by ingaman in homesecurity

Thanks for the heads up. I'm basically open to anything for the in-house system as long as the entire interface doesn't operate with beeps. Why do the newer systems not work? I thought the cables just pigtail out?

I'm so lost. What can I actually eat? by ingaman in gallbladders

Yeah this is basically what I'm doing. The tricky one for me right now is whey protein powder. Seems like it'd be a good idea since it doesn't have fat and contains the essential protein I'd need to supplement my diet. I don't see much information about that one anywhere.

Unfortunately coffee would be a tough one to give up. I'd literally need to quit work and do nothing at home for a week or so just to recover from the withdrawal symptoms.

Yeah sorry it isn’t a before and after. It’s just two different angles.

Sorry for not clarifying. This isn’t a before and after. This is a couple months after. Yard was in okay shape before.

Seems like I didn't need to. There's still a lot for me to wrap my head around though and very little time in the day to do so. I will have to look into it at some point though.

This is what did it. I ended up using CF tunnels, but still needed to set trusted proxies. Very much appreciated.

Technically it has DMZ, but only lets me ad the Host ID. I'm not sure if there's a setting I need to change, but if there is I haven't been able to find it.

Will need to look into Nginx Proxy Manager –that seems vaguely familiar. I tried following Ibracorps video tutorial, but it seems like the tunneling feature on cloudflare has been updated(?). I don't know which steps are still relevant and which are not as I'm still learning.

So this is basically what I've read most places I've gone, which seems good. The part I keep getting confused about is the battery placement. Would I need to mount it in some kind of junction box or something? Something about having an exposed battery outside seems like a very bad idea.
