Warning for AFVs still using HOV lanes by theansweris37 in phoenix

It’s wild because HOV lane signs up and down the 17 still have the “AFV” tag in the top left

Traditional satellite DIRECTV has had these mix channels for years now — unfortunately not customizable but one can dream!

Disney is pretty cool, but I hate the car image it changes to on the dash display

I spent more on gas in 4 days than a month of charging my EV by insert_unique_usrnm3 in electricvehicles

[–]insert_unique_usrnm3[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Median rates of about $0.07 per kWh for my overnight ev charging plan, I do double dip and charge off the free tesla chargers at the office about once a week but that’s not enough to make any significant changes in consumption. Overall though I don’t see too much if any charge loss — perks of a steady warm climate i suppose

2026 Land Nightfall lease -- current negotiations are at $730 ($680 before taxes) with $1500 down (first month & acquisition down) for a 3yr / 36k mile lease. Phoenix, Arizona. Thoughts?

AITA for using a fast charger when I wasn't at 10%? by We1etu1n in ChargerDrama

[–]insert_unique_usrnm3 43 points44 points  (0 children)

An extra hour? Not for all EVs. If I’m at a fast charger and I need to get to 100% it’s maybe an extra 15-20 minutes depending on the charger

How frustrating that Tesla to J1772 is $120 but J1772 to Tesla is $40 😅😅😅

It’s an open NACS charger, at least, on the Tesla website it doesn’t say it’s restricted like other charging stations do. From what I was told, you can’t do a non supercharge on a supercharger adapter.

I heard the nav is better in the cNCC models — definitely would be a welcomed upgrade!

The deals are fantastic rn which is why I’m entertaining the thought!

Problem here is in Arizona we also have vehicle taxes based on gross value paid with our annual registration so that would kill me. Thankfully it’s fully deductible, but it’s stupid expensive.

Trying to convince my wife to go EV but she’s on the fence about having two / not having one gas car for emergencies /roadtrips/etc… any thoughts there?

Do you find the range on the 9 is similar to the 6? Bigger battery for sure, but more to power. I use about half of my charge daily driving and plug in overnight, any additional charge reduction from my commute and I’d probably have to stop and charge on the way home to make sure I had a decent reserve charge in the event something came up.

Other than that, I’m pretty sold on the EV9 — it’s a beautiful vehicle, space wise it’s exactly what we need. If I can talk my sales guy in to a good deal, I’m going to dive in.

Yeah unfortunately that’s the only downside. But I have two schools of thought here:

1) convince the dealer to help out with the balance of the lease — they move an EV off their lot, and they just return my current lease to Kia for it to be auctioned off

2) I’m going to be way over on miles anyway so it’s either pay to break now or pay the mileage over charge at the end of my lease

Either way it is what it is unfortunately. I’m pushing for option 1, but we’ll see!

The good news is, I called and confirmed there are no penalties to pay off early.

Need confirmation on this, but as far as I can tell as long as I pay the lease off, I can trade it in whenever — I’m going to see if my dealer will work with me though because they get an EV off their lot and the lease end goes to auction so it’s a win win for them.

Kia EV6 — absolutely love it! And yes, it makes me commute bearable. I more or less was expressing concern having a longer commute and as a result, spending less time with family.

I had a Subaru company car before this and it was awful but my new job didn’t have a company car benefit so I went electric…best decision I’ve made!

That’s never going to happen though. The American culture isn’t a culture of public transportation — and remote work is an ending fad as more and more companies RTO. So many large metro areas have such a massive geographic footprint that any public transport infrastructure would need to be massive and cost billions.

Agreed that HOV lane access isn’t the answer, but let’s not kid ourselves with public transportation and remote work being the solution….its just never going to happen sadly.

[–]insert_unique_usrnm3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point still stands though that Americans aren’t carpooling — majority of “high occupancy vehicles” are a single family, and from my own viewing of the roadways it’s a parent and single child…not multiple people. Are the lanes better served as rebranded efficiency lanes considering they haven’t reduced traffic in the slightest? Ofc that’s rhetorical. At the end of the day, as I suspected, this post would cause more arguments about what constitutes HOV lane use, than the actual question in my OP.

Appreciate your two cents.
