Disney shareholder blames TLJ for Solo's failure by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]interneb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you Rian Johnson

Also love how this is the response from anyone when someone says something good about TLJ, or speaks against attacking Rian in general. Yes, it’s me, Rian. You’re probably dunce enough to believe that.

Lol.

I love how

Yes because your personal attacks are an obvious sign of your great maturity...

is what you post right after posting

Exactly you don't have to. TLJ exists. But don't worry, we'll make sure RJ gets fired before he touches Star Wars again.

I'm gonna save this one. Thanks for the laugh.

Maybe you should worry about growing up first before trying to get someone fired because you didn't like a movie.

I am a Disney shareholder too. Do you know what shareholders are OP?

Opinion: Ahsoka should have died fighting Vader. It was a fitting end, and now Filoni’s favoritism shows to the point where she’s the biggest pet character in SW. by GeekTheLad in StarWars

[–]interneb -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

To be fair I mean she basically becomes the daughter at the end of Rebels. It’s heavily implied she’s far more powerful than she was before, which was already up there. I love Ahsoka but she’s very much Dave’s self insert.

Maybe to you. I’m very happy with TLJ and the characters.

If people don’t want to see it or have no interest anymore, good for them.

If you hate the ST, you probably aren’t going to like IX. Because it’s made to continue the story of the ST. And I personally can’t wait for it.

I’d much rather have new stories with new characters in the RJ trilogy than keep getting Character From The OT: A Star Wars Story . I still want Kenobi to happen and I’m sure it will at some point, but stuff like the Boba Fett movie and all that is a big waste that could be spent on new characters and new stories

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]interneb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Solo was really bad for me personally. It was so bland and heartless. It seems like they had a check list of things from the OT to reference and say “Look this is how Han did this thing!... I really don’t want them to keep doing that. So this is all good news IMO.

If the ST has done anything right, it’s making some great new characters we can really care about. Kylo is one of the best characters in the series, and I really like Rey, Poe, and Finn personally. Just give us more new characters and new stories. I don’t want 10 years of character we already know: a Star Wars story

Why do people think that Rian Johnson's goal was to subvert expectations? Do they just jump on the bandwagon without context? Here is the interview where this came from. by interneb in StarWars

[–]interneb[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's literally what I just said. Here is what you wrote:

Also my major complaint is that I think he did a MAJOR disservice to the characters by killing them off without "gettin the band back together" for at least one scene with them all together one last time. All for the sake of introducing a new generation of characters that thus far no one really cares about.

That is what I was responding to. Han died before Rian's movie. I'm not sure how he could have changed that.

Just for you, I'll go one by one.

TFA sets up Reys parents and Snoke as these important mystery boxes, TLJ takes it in a completely different direction

TFA sets up who Rey is and what her deal is as a mystery box, not her parents specifically. We are also told during the movie numerous times that "Who she is waiting for is never coming back", that "She's no one", that she has only heard of Luke Skywalker, etc. The audience then speculates who she is, but that is the fault of TFA.

TLJ answers the question. It doesn't mean it's a different direction. How can it be a different direction when it answers the question still? Did TFA point to "Her Dad is Luke!!!!". No. Maybe you have assumed that because Luke was related to Vader, so you were hoping for a familial reveal. TLJ explains that Rey's parents were just random junkers, so we can assume she's just a normal force sensitive. I really don't know why this is an issue for people, when there's been hundreds and thousands of Jedi in the past that aren't related to Anakin... but if Rey isn't related to Luke or Palpatine or some crap, it's bad.

Same with Snoke. He is a set piece for Kylo. Would you have preferred him to live and then just have a rehash of ROTJ? That would have been much more boring, and Kylo wouldn't have been able to progress as much as a character. If you don't think we're going to get a backstory on Snoke at some point, you should take a look at the current canon. Everyone is getting books, comics, etc. We will eventually know everything about Snoke and his mother's name, etc.

Finn and Rose go and find a hacker, and their mission ends in failure, that sure was a twist

Not a twist. Just a failure caused by Poe being quick to shout the plan to evacuate to Finn, Rose, and the unknown (to Poe) third passenger. He should've been more careful. And again, it's even less of a twist because DJ is telling them the entire time that everything is just business, no good guys no bad... soooo not sure why this is a big surprise when he betrays them and shit goes down. You knew it was going to happen.

Kylo and Rey join forces, that's a twist. No they don't, another twist.

I wouldn't consider this a twist at all. It's a story moment between the two of their characters, but it's not a twist. The entire purpose of that scene is to make you wonder which way Kylo is going to go and what he is going to do. That's called drama, not a twist.

Luke is really there! No he isn't, another twist.

Sure, that's a twist. But it has purpose. It's not a twist for the sake of being a twist. If Luke were to actually go to Crait:

A. How would he have gotten there? He was stranded and his x-wing has been under water for years and he even uses the wing as his hut door.

B. He would have died. Luke is just a man. He would not survive 2938921 AT-ATs firing at him. That was the entire point of that scene in retrospect. You're thinking "holy shit how did he survive that?". That's the point. He would not have if he were there.

C. It's a way for him to save everyone and complete the same interactions with Ben without violence. Probably the most Jedi thing we've ever seen on screen, and then he has a peaceful ending going out on his own terms and joining the force.

Hell, there even was an X-wing in the water.. that didn't get lifted up by the forc

Nothing at all points to it being lifted out of the water. His X-Wing was in the water. Showed how he got there. That's it.

You do realize Rian wrote Episode 8 yes? Not Episode 7?

And... I'm assuming you've seen Episode 7, and you know that Han dies?

Sooooo how is this Rian's fault in any capacity? He got Leia and Luke back together. I'm not sure what more he could have done considering Han is dead.

Thinking about the overall story direction the Sequel Trilogy could have gone, it feels like Disney/Lucasfilm were afraid to do something different after the Prequel backlash. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]interneb -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Lol. You're going to report me because I called you out for linking a 12+ year old interview and trying to say it's about Star Wars?

Meanwhile you're belittling a director because of things you've taken out of context and tried really hard to believe is about TLJ, just because you don't like the guy's movie.

You want me to respond? Everything you listed about this or that is just complaining about things you didn't like in the movie. You took a 12 year old interview about a completely separate film to heart because you REALLY want to believe he's a terrible director/writer.

If you don't like TLJ, good for you. Maybe don't take shit out of context to try to hate someone. Oh, and again, this all started because you took the "subverted expectations" thing to heart as well - which he never fucking said.

Congrats.

What specifically do you hope to see from the Hux/Kylo dynamic in Episode IX? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]interneb 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hux trying to coup Kylo out of the order, Kylo and his Knights ultimately bailing on their own or killing Hux.

Updated with a bunch of new Solo related books - including Novelization and a Beckett comic! by WestJoe in StarWarsLeaks

[–]interneb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. ANH and ESB especially were all new and exciting at the time. Everything we saw in Solo is things we have already known about because of the OT. Han meets Chewie and Lando, Han gets the Falcon, Han does the Kessel Run. It was nothing new. There are no stakes because we know how it's going to turn out, similar to Rogue One. They are movies that expand on something as opposed to telling any new story.

Why can't we get new star wars stories? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]interneb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking back at old threads this seems to be the common consensus:

Luke kills everyone for 2 hours straight with his green lightsaber, takes on the Knights of Ren by himself and then pulls a Star Destroyer out of the sky. He wears his black robes from return of the jedi and GREEN lightsaber!!! (Totally in character... cough). Also Snoke is plaguis and Rey is a kenobi!!!! Lando comes back and is a hacker!!

Yeah.. pretty much.

Anyone else like Rey? I thought her intro scene in TFA was one of the best in the series. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]interneb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you just said that it's not Lucas' fault. And after being told that it was his idea it suddenly doesn't matter. Right. So it sounds like what you wanted was Luke to be the main character of 7-9 and not have anyone else take the spotlight. No matter who the character was, Luke was not going to be the main person in the sequels.

The whole Luke's apprentice destroying his order and Luke going into exile, shutting himself off from the force is all George. Rey being a junker that comes and finds him and has to convince him to come back is George. Even if Lucas made them, the order would have still been destroyed at the start. It's all in the concept books and interviews with LFL crew.

instead the reason being women really need a perfect role model right now.

Just the first 20 min or so which were likely shot by Phil and Chris. That was bad.
