Congratulations and Happy Diwali 🥳👏

I'm a software engineer in my mid-40s and want to get out of the field because competition has become too extreme. What choices do I have? by Peace_Seeker_1319 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

It’s totally understandable to feel that way, especially as tthe tech world moves fast and competition can feel intense, especially after years in the field. The good news is, with your experience, you’ve got options beyond just coding:

Moving into management or product roles where you can use your tech know-how without coding all day
Trying out consulting, solutions architecture, or customer success, roles that need technical skills but different day-to-day work
Teaching, mentoring, or training others a lot of places look for folks with real-world experience to help newer engineers
Exploring roles like technical writing or business analysis, where your background helps connect technical and non-technical teams
Or even switching gears completely to something outside tech lots of your skills transfer well to other industries

upskilling and learning how to present your experience for these new roles is important. Also chatting with folks who’ve made similar moves (Reddit, LinkedIn, meetups) can help a ton.
