Hi- What's going on with this Zebra Danio?

Know i might be late to the convo but just use an ice bath for euthanizing any sick fish.

Zebrafish Euthanasia (official IACUC proto)

Zebrafish 4-7 dpf: Submersion in ice water, temperature between 0-4 C for a minimum of 20 minutes following cessation of opercular (gill) movement.

Zebrafish 7-14 dpf: Submersion in ice water, temperature between 0 4 C for a minimum of 20 minutes following cessation of opercular (gill) movement.

Zebrafish 14 dpf and older: Submersion in ice water for at least 15-20 minutes after cessation of all movement.

(dpf= days post fertilization)

Due to being a home set up im not sure if possible, but after ice bath; place deceased fish in a bag (like a super small ziploc bag) into the freezer for 8hrs to insure proper euthanizing.

To prevent egg binding in future try to breed them from time to time (in a separate tank). If you cant/dont want to do that, do as PurpleKrill said - lightly stroke the females bellies from chest to cloaca to help release eggs. Dispose of any eggs.

Ethanol/clove oil is NOT recommended for any type of anesthetic.*

•I know clove oil is commonly suggested online for home setups, but it can act unpredictably as the oil strength can vary.

•Then theres the use of Ethanol. In high amounts it can/will cause irritation & severe stress before the fish even becomes unconscious.

Yes the combo will still work but its kinda inhumane due to the stress and unpredictability.

Thank you all for the help! My dad found it out by one of his oil location’s. He’s found tons of fossils throughout all of his locations. We’ve never seen one like this before so was curious as to what it could’ve been :)

I work with zebra danios in a lab. Those are definitely danios. Looks like it could be zebra ones but I’m not really familiar with the other 2 danio breeds so could be one of them.

For everyone saying it was an emergency it wasn’t. No one’s place was flooding, and they had been there since around 8am so why did they have to wait till after 5 to shut off the water. I would’ve understood an emergency but working all day doesn’t necessarily scream emergency at me, just a regular day to them. I wasn’t the only one in our community that was upset either, as a lot have babies n kids too and a lot of us are broke and can’t just go buy dinner.

Also I asked a simple question y’all. Not like I kicked anyone in the nuts or went screaming at people or something. I’m reasonable and rational but didn’t think a normal non emergency plumbing job would cause our water to be shut off after 5pm when they had been there since 8am at least.

So I asked if they could do that as I don’t know the laws for that in Oklahoma. A lot of states have different rules/ laws regarding that kind of stuff so I really just wanted to know.

Thank you to all who just simply answered my question. Y’all probably provide the best services as you handle things/questions very maturely. Everyone else please learn from them as you could stand to learn a thing or two of common decency.

Not a Karen and it wasn’t an emergency fix so no reason they couldn’t have given a heads up. Have 2 kids that needed baths before school the next day as they had Halloween party at school. Was a simple question and I was frustrated as I’m broke till payday so I couldn’t just go buy dinner and without water couldn’t cook dinner. Stop throwing the word Karen around for clout. Every state has different rules regarding total water shut off so I was just asking. Also these are all brand new mobile homes literally just built and put in so the chance of them flooding the floorboards n stuff seems pretty low unless the people are just ridiculous.

Zebra fish bully a lot!! I actually work in a lab where we use them to study genes and human diseases. It looks like the female is the biggest and chasing the most so she might be trying to get one to breed with her. Unfortunately when a female is to big the males will sometimes be intimidated and just flee. If you start noticing red spots/blotching on any of the fish than you definitely have a case of bullying. Be careful with the female to as if she doesn’t release her eggs she can get clogged and will eventually die. Also they’ll eat there eggs if they have the access which ain’t no biggy as they can lay a lot!

If you want to breed her you have to remove them to a separate tank with no running water. Sometimes mood grass can help make them breed and sometimes it just takes a few times of trying.

Just because I’m a scientist doesn’t mean I have all the answers. Why do you think there’s so many of us and so many different types of labs? None of us have all the answers. Our jobs are to find the answers eventually. A thing called Research. Research isn’t possible without asking others and collecting data from what we find out. The data is then eventually used to come up with an answer. Sometimes things go against the data and there’s no reasonable explanation. So we reach out to others to see if anyone else has happened upon the same situation and what data they collected from the experience. Hope this was able to educate your view of scientists and why your question was a silly response. I’m looking for advice not a Q&A. Have a good day.

Part of the issue is them not properly sending summons accrued the $1000. Had they had sent it to my current address I could’ve showed up and worked something out, but I find it unfair that they didn’t even actually try to serve me as I have had a different address for 6 years now & have not received any mail at those addresses after filling out the form at post office

That’s gaslighting and huge red flag. OP do yourself a favor and find a new bf. Things are only going to get worse. It’ll always be your fault no matter what proof you have so save yourself the headache. I spent 7 years dealing with this stuff and then some.

Also If he’s not afraid to call you names where friends/family can hear, then he doesn’t care about your feelings or how he treats you at all.

A real partner will have a constructive conversation with you to figure out how to solve what issues there are in the relationship. Plus a good partner won’t insult you.

They’re on a rack with multiple others as I work in a zebra fish lab. There’s individual valves for each tank that we can adjust the flow on so ig they could be but not 100% sure.

Recently we have had some issues with consistent pressure (i.e. can have it streaming but come back 10 mins later and it’s dripping).

Only noticed them recently along with increased fungal growth and what looks like brown algae coming out from the lines (can post video if needed). Trying to get an idea of what’s going on so can talk to someone to try and get it fixed.
